Star Wars Pixar

Star Wars Pixar

This is flipping brilliant. Perhaps inspired by the just-released Toy Story 3 (haven’t seen it yet, don’t spoil it for me) an artist going by the moniker “Sillof” has mashed up Star Wars with Pixar‘s library of characters. And the result, as I said before, is pure brilliance. What’s most surprising about these mixed characters is how easily and logically they come together. It only reinforces the fact that everyone at Pixar is a Star Wars fan, and the archetypal characters in George Lucas’ original trilogy have had tremendous influences on just about every piece of genre fiction of the last three decades. For example, Sillof combines WALL-E with R2-D2 to Read more »

Darth Vader Plays In World Cup, Promotes Netbooks [Video]

Darth Vader Plays In World Cup, Promotes Netbooks [Video]

My only language is English so I’m not positive what this video is promoting, but I’m pretty sure it’s a line of Star Wars friendly notebooks with internet and TV service. In any case it’s pretty funny. In the video Darth Vader is setup for a shootout kick in which he pushes the ball past the goalie using the force, never actually placing a foot on the ball, a move that pisses off a player from the other team, leading Vader to choke the player with the force. Yeah it’s a little goofy but it’s a really clever promotional tool. Here’s the video: Read more »

More Tron toys: the Light Cycle rides up walls!

More Tron toys: the Light Cycle rides up walls!

Yesterday James told you all about the new Tron Legacy action figures that light up. Today we have a full gallery of all of the planned Tron toys in gorgeous high-resolution images, including the action figs and a remote control Light Cycle toy (seen above) which can actually ride up walls and even on the ceiling. I have no idea how this Light Cycle toy rides on walls, and I don’t want to know. All that matters is that it does. I have a video that shows it in action to prove it: Read more »

In Anticipation Of The Last Airbender

In Anticipation Of The Last Airbender

I have this tendency to get hooked on one thing and just be 100% focused on that for as long as the urge is there. For the past few weeks, I have been absolutely fixated on the anime Avatar: The Last Airbender. I am ashamed to say that I never really did pay attention to it until my 9-year-old brother asked me to watch an episode with him. I fell for Aang and the rest of the gang – hook, line, and sinker. Since I am in the height of my Airbender fever, I cannot help but be excited about the movie version that M. Night Shyamalan has been working Read more »

What is HTML5 And Why You Should Care

What is HTML5 And Why You Should Care

Since the iPad was announced and Steve Jobs said that non of Apple’s hand held devices will ever support Flash the web was full of discussion. Apple and Adobe have and are publicly waging a war on the subject of Apple’s refusal to support Flash. Instead Apple has chosen to even market HTML5 as the the next best thing on the web. Now most people wouldn’t know the details, just that their iPhone and iPad won’t display certain websites and that “hey website x has less ads on it!”. Also the famous box announcing missing plugin for Flash support is a famous appearance on many websites. In any case here Read more »

Tron Toys. Some Of The Coolest Action Figures Ever Created

Tron Toys. Some Of The Coolest Action Figures Ever Created

Tron: Legacy looks to be a pretty cool telling of the Tron Series, but what has me really excited at the moment is the films really cool action figures created by SpinMaster. Watching the video below and looking at the picture to the right you’ll notice that the figures uniforms light up, but what makes them really special is that the faces of the characters are light projected, allowing them to look exactly like the characters from the movie!. Meet Watson: The Jeopardy Expert

Meet Watson: The Jeopardy Expert

It looks like mankind is one step nearer to the dream of creating an intelligent machine. At least that seems to be the goal of IBM when they created Watson, a supercomputer that is capable of thinking – to a certain degree. His creators call him a “question answering system,” which is not quite apt for a self-thinking robot. That’s because Watson isn’t quite there yet. What makes you shake your head in awe about Watson, however, is the fact that he is the first ever machine that can interact meaningfully with humans (that’s us!) through speech. When I first read about Watson, I couldn’t help but think about that Read more »

You Don't Love Batman Like Aaron Schoenke Loves Batman! [Fan Film]

You Don't Love Batman Like Aaron Schoenke Loves Batman! [Fan Film]

Do you love Batman? Well you don’t love it as much as Aaron Schoenke. If you did you would have spent $27,000 to film your own take on the popular franchise. That’s what Schoenke paid to film City of Scars, a rather impressive looking and morbid take on Batman. Aaron took the film back to it’s roots with a darker look and the classic voice over which I personally love, although I know voice overs can piss off some viewers. Here’s the synopsis for the 30 minute movie: Read more »

Buy Your Own Tardis. You Won't Be Able to Timetravel but It's Still a Tardis!

Buy Your Own Tardis. You Won't Be Able to Timetravel but It's Still a Tardis!

I really must be desperate right at the moment because chances that within the next 90 seconds you bunch are going to exterminate me are highly likely. Fact is that I am going to agree with Stephen Fry. I know this doesn’t happen often but last week the man bag carrying ‘geek’ was bang on when criticised the national religion institute The Beeb for their religion Sci-fi series Doctor Who. The only drama the BBC will boast about are Merlin and Doctor Who which are fine, but they’re children’s programmes. Here at FG HQ we love to ignore the Doctor (hey stop digging my iPlayer logs!) just because although the Read more »
