UPDATE: Microsoft has announced the release date for the Kinect device as November 3, 2010. Still no price. Just prior to this week’s E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles (no, I’m not there, and yes, there are tears), Microsoft put together a mega-event to officially take the wraps off the new motion-controller product that until now has been only known by its codename: Project Natal. The new name is Kinect — which makes me think of K’NEX building toys — and it was shown off at a multimedia event that can only be described as “bizarre,” by all accounts. If Microsoft was in the market for a bizarre event, then Read more »

Lighters For The Smoking Hot Geek
I don’t know for sure if I can find a smoking hot geek in my neighborhood, but hey, one can always hope, right? Anyhow, I got this really nice Zippo lighter from my best friend a couple of months ago, and it got me started on looking up cool lighters. You’d be surprised at just how many geeky lighters there are out there! Of the countless items I have run across in the last several weeks, here are the three best ones. Read more »
Rock Band 3 adds piano
A long-awaited holy grail of rhythmic games is finally coming to pass. Harmonix and MTV Games have just announced that Rock Band 3 is adding a piano keyboard to its collection of instruments — a collection that already includes guitar, bass, drums, and three microphones (for three-party harmonies). That’s seven players that can rock out together at one time. Before you get too excited, I should point out that the new piano peripheral is a small, two-octave keyboard, sporting just 25 keys. The drum kit is getting an upgrade that includes three cymbals, and the two guitars available for Rock Band 3 will have actual strings. Read more »
Futurama Characters Re-Imagined As X-Men Characters
With Futurama prepared to launch 12 new episodes on Comedy Central starting June 24th I knew it was only a matter of time before a bunch of various promotional materials arrived and one of the first pieces of promotional material is an X-Men redrawing of the cast. Notice that it’s Fry as a Cyclops in this version instead of the already Cyclops drawn Lea. I also really like Dr. Zoidberg, the loveable, yet always confused lobster who is drawn with Adamantium Wolverine like claws. Read more »
Star Wars Cantina 2010
Today the World Cup kicked off in South Africa, while writing this Uruguay vs. France is on T.V. and I also caught the second half of South Africa vs. Mexico. A week ago I was mulling over the question of how many Forever Geekers are into soccer? I for one don’t watch soccer unless it’s the Euro Cup or the World Cup. Well according to Adidas latest commercial there are a lot of geeks into soccer. The video Star Wars Cantina 2010 features Han Solo, C-3PO and R2-D2 among Star Wars characters and some more present day guests like David Beckham, Daft Punk and Snoop Dogg to name a few. Read more »
The Nazi's took over the world again!
Now I know that Nazi’s will always make good super-villains, and that yet again, they are particularly fashionable after the release of the Vainglorious Bastards. But we had only just saved the world from Nazi domination in Justice Society Of America, and now… AGAIN?!?!? Read more »
When Kids Do Math
I never liked math. Not as a kid in grade school. Not as a teenager in high school. Not even as a university student studying engineering. I don’t know why I kept gravitating towards this subject, but I knew I didn’t (and don’t) love numbers as math geeks do. Today, though, I thoroughly enjoyed viewing some images about math that a colleague posted on her Facebook account. Ironically, this colleague is an English teacher by profession. Here’s the first one. I suppose it was a question for a science exam, but hey, the kid knows his math, doesn’t he? Read more »
Best stationary ever
Ever wanted to feel like you’re living in a cartoon, or a comic book? While we wait on technology to make it possible to enter holodecks that change our physical appearance to that of a cartoon character, you could at least feel a little more like you’re inside a square, hand-drawn frame, with this. The Icon Letter stationery is, sadly, just a concept right now. But as soon as they find somebody to manufacture it, I’m sold. Yes, I love me some cool office supplies. I’m one of those geeks that could walk into Office Depot or Staples and spend hundreds of dollars going bonkers over all the pens, folders, Read more »
Cool Keyboard Artwork That Will Make You Drool
Not everyone is capable of appreciating art, but even if you aren’t an art lover, I am pretty sure that this set of artwork will catch your eye! I ran across the collection at Walyou, where they featured 22 pieces. Here are some of the ones I liked the most. This computer chair is pretty cute. I wouldn’t mind sitting on this chair while watching TV, but I don’t think I’ll be able to sit on it for a long time – it doesn’t look too comfy, does it? Read more »
iPad Gets Arcade Console, But It's Made Out Of Cardboard
During April Fools day ThinkGeek showed off a fake arcade system that incorporated the Apple iPad, while their accessory may have been a joke, the actual proof in concept now exists. Created by Hideyoshi Moriya, the Apple iPad Arcade has a casing made out of cardboard (yeah, I know…not so appealing) and it works by plugging the iPad into an Arduino board that sits inside the cardboard dock. The Arduino is then connected to arcade controls which include a joystick and two buttons. Here’s a video of the console in action, notice the rather impressive response times: Read more »
