When many of us think about Cyborgs we picture Caprica, Battlestar Galatica or Dr. Who, but in reality Cyborg technology is emerging at tremenous rates, making it possible for people to walk again, to see where sight was once not found and even to control technological devices through body-to-device interfacing. Basically, it should come as no surprise that Cyborg rights are starting to make their first real appearances. Speaking as the Keynote speaker for the IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society, Dr. Roger Clarke from the Australian National University discussed the importance of cyborg rights. Sure much of what Clarke argued was abstract principles for the future, but he Read more »

Dark Horse Has A Gold Key To A Valiant Future
I am not one to say that my love affair with these characters is anywhere near as passionate as the famed Mr Jim Shooter’s. After Warren Ellis’ Acclaim series (and his own Valiant series) he has large shoes to fill. Read more »
Human-sized spider web
And you thought duct tape has all the fun. This isn’t a set for a nightmarish movie or the world’s worst case of cob webs. This is an art installation made entirely out of packing tape. It’s strong enough to hold itself up, and it can even support several visitors who can crawl around inside and explore it. The installation shown in these photos was made by a design collective called numen/foruse, in an old stock exchange building in Vienna. The group used one hundred pounds of clear packing tape, or 117,000 feet of the stuff from 530 rolls. And it wasn’t the group’s first such creation. The near future Read more »
Hack and tweak your Firefox
Despite the wide variety of web browsers available I’m still a daily Firefox user. I could never get used to Safari or Camino. I do use Chrome for testing websites or when I need multiple logins on one website. As for Opera I can’t really care for it at all. While Firefox is the slowest of all the browsers I like it due to the add-ons and the possibility to hack a lot of settings to suit my needs. Just by typing about:config you’ll get access to customize Firefox’s core settings. Of course this doesn’t come without a proper warning from Firefox. That warning says it all, hack and tweak Read more »
The World Cup: When Technology and Sports Collide
Sports fans are on the edge of their seats as the FIFA World Cup 2010 finals is about to begin on Friday, the 11th of June. I’ve already made plans to spend Friday night at a bar with friends to watch Les Bleus hopefully kick butt. What we should be a little more interested in is the fact that this humongous event is the epitome of how technology is paramount in our lives. While those who are purely interested in the sport may not think about it, people who pride themselves in being tech savvy should realize that this is the first time in history that an event of this Read more »
NASA Astronauts Smuggled Artwork Onto The Moon
If we were to describe our culture to alien races, there’s a good chance we would spend a good deal of time showing them our culture’s artwork. Apparently NASA astronauts held that same belief, when according to a new PBS documentary they smuggled miniaturized versions of various artwork onto the moon. The artwork was carried aboard Apollo 12 and was placed on a postage-stamp-sized chip. Read more »
Apple unveils iPhone 4
Today at WWDC, Steve Jobs unveiled the long-awaited and already-leaked iPhone 4 — which is not the “iPhone 4G,” as was anticipated. Here are the highlights: The design of the iPhone has been completely overhauled. Gone is the soap-shaped smartphone of… well, yesterday. Instead, we have a sleek new ultra-thin device shaped not unlike a 2001 monolith, with rounded edges. In essence, it looks like a miniature iMac. It’s high-density glass on the front and back, with stainless steel around the sides. The phone’s antenna is built in to the metal siding — just one of many clever innovations that allow the new device to be so incredibly compact. It’s Read more »
Star Wars Corsets, For The Sexy Storm Trooper You've Always Wanted To Be
Ready to have a night of naughty fun? Why not try on a bit of Star Wars naughtiness. No I’m not talking about a Princess Leia gold bikini, although that wouldn’t be bad either, but rather a new set of Star Wars Corsets. The corsets feature two options, a shiny white storm trooper outfit or a naughty in black Darth Vader option with included cape. Designed by California artist shop EveningArwen both corsets can be picked up with their full outfits (pictured) for the not so consumer friendly price of $600. Although for woman married to or dating Star Wars fanatics it may be just the right price to pull Read more »
Song Of Ice And Fire Miniatures By Dark Sword
I have this colleague whose cubicle at work looks like a toy store’s window display. Seriously, he must have thousand of dollars worth of toys tastefully arranged all around his PC. It’s a toy-lover’s paradise. Over the years, he kinda imparted a bit of his enthusiasm to me; and when I heard that Dark Sword Miniatures have recently released new pewter miniatures of some of the main characters in the Song of Ice and Fire series, I could barely contain my excitement. Dark Sword Miniatures, Inc., is well known for its high quality pewter miniatures and they already have a line of George R.R. Martin characters. I am quite excited Read more »
1,000 YouTube uploads equals this
Is this some kind of strange alien communication? An encrypted military message? No, this is what happens when you upload a video to YouTube, download it, and repeat… one thousand times. The miniscule degradation that occurs every time the video is repeatedly uploaded and compressed adds up over time and ultimately transforms the original creation into something that its creator has decided is a singular work of art. It took YouTube user “canzona” one full year to complete the upload/download process a thousand times over. The result is something bizarre, psychedelic, and fascinating. If it ain’t geeky, I don’t know what is. Read more »
