The new Mattel DC Universe Classics line actually makes the series look like it’s worth buying again, with Robin, Robin, Knightfall Azrael, the Riddler, Jonah Hex, Mercury, the Creeper, and a Bane build-a-figure. Yes I said Robin twice and for good reason, there are two of him. The strange part? The only difference appears to be that there are two different haircuts on the Robin action figures. It’s also the first time in a while that the line doesn’t offer a bunch of obscure characters, other than maybe Creepers, who also isn’t insanely obscure like some past offerings. Read more »

Dante’s Internet
Even though I’m a geek and internet is my work and pass time, I’m still old fashioned. I prefer paper books over ebooks, I like old books like “Pride and Prejudice”. I go more often to the second hands bookshop then I go to an Apple store. Needless to say I read my fair amounts of books regularly. When I read The Dante Club: A Novel by Matthew Pearl I learned all about Dante’s Divine Comedy while the characters tried to solve gruesome murders in 19th century Boston. And as a true geek after finishing the book I went online to read and learn about Dante. The most important thing Read more »
Inception/Up Trailer Mashup
This is one of the most brilliant mashups I’ve ever seen. It casts Carl Fredrickson of Up in the Leonardo DiCaprio role in Inception. The most surprising thing about it is how well these two stories — which you’d never in a million years think would work together — mesh so beautifully. It’s a testament to the power of good editing. Why I haven’t given up on comics
My fellow blogger on this site, Robin has yesterday written a post on why he has given up on comics. Many of the points he makes are very valid, they are all objections to the state of the market that I have felt myself, both as a comic shop manager in what some people call the dark days of the mid-Nineties, but primarily as a fan. A total, unrestrained fan. However, I felt driven to respond in defence of my favoured medium, as I think we may be reading in very different fashions. Let’s take these points one by one. 1) Rising Costs If I was to be honest, I Read more »
You Can't Say No to the Old Spice Guy
The Old Spice Guy, who goes by the name Isaiah Mustafa in real life, is a household name by now. Even if not everyone might know his real name, just say Old Spice Guy and you’ll be understood faster than you can say, well, Isaiah Mustafa. His recent gimmick of replying to voice mail and Twitter requests propelled him to higher heights. With the likes of Kevin Rose and Gizmodo joining the fray – and receiving their very own video replies – it is not a surprise. This particular video perplexes me a bit though. Read more »
Soulja Boy Creates Worst Rap Anime…Ever!
Soulja Boy is known for songs that include Turn My Swag On and Whoop Rico, while those songs are about being all gangster and kicking butt and going after the ladies, so it surprised me to learn that his other hobby is a bit more geeky, it turns out the rapper loves anime. In fact Soulja Boy loves Anime so much that he’s released an Anime rap. Unfortunately the song isn’t about to win him any more fans or awards, in fact it’s 100% horrible with the rapper basically naming off Anime titles and then naming the cast of Dragonball Z. Why I gave up comic books
I love comics. I really do. I think it’s the most underrated of all art forms. Stories can be told in comics that can’t be told in any other medium, and that excites me. But a while back, after years of buying comics religiously every single week, I gave up on comics altogether. Here’s why. Read more »
500 Worst Passwords
If you are a geek or a nerd chances are small to non-existent that you have a common password for all your online accounts. Not the same can be said about non-tech people. I remember when Gmail was released and how many accounts where hacked due to people using the “secret” question of their pet name. So you can imagine their actual passwords weren’t that complicate either. One has to admit it is hard keeping up with passwords, I have so many online accounts that I have to write down passwords. I also have a system where I use one password and each site has a variation to that one Read more »
Meet Leonard Nimoy the Photographer
I only knew Leonard Nimoy as pointy-eared Spock, who has been on a pedestal ever since I “met” him. That goes to show how much I know. Did you know that he has been a photographer (an accomplished one at that) for almost 40 years? Apparently, Nimoy started dabbling in photography when he was a mere 13 years old – and he did it the old fashioned way. He was (and is) totally serious about photography that he studied with Robert Heinecken at the University of California in Los Angeles. And, in the mid-70s (I was still pure energy then), Nimoy thought about shifting careers – from acting to photography! Read more »
Witness the power of the mighty Thor!
The good geeks at ComicBookMovie.com have gotten their hands on the 5-minute sizzle reel/trailer for the Thor movie that was shown at Comic-Con. Within the first minute, it completely erased all my hesitations about seeing this mythical tale on the big screen. You’re about to see why Thor quickly became one of the most buzzed-about panels at the Con. Update: The original video embed was disabled due to copyright stuff, yadda yadda… Try this one, which seems to work (at least for the moment). Update 2: Sigh… It would appear that the powers that be have issued their usual cease-and-desist orders. Bummer. The trailer seriously rocked. I know it was Read more »
