David Prowse, the actor who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars films is no longer allowed to attend official Star Wars and other related Lucas Film based events.

Prowse has been attending official events since the Star Wars Trilogy debuted, however he has had an ongoing feud with George Lucas after his lines were dubbed over by James Earl Jones before the first movie debuted, that dubbing occurred without his knowledge. Prowse was also replaced by actor Sebastian Shaw in the famous scene in which Darth Vader finally removes his mask to reveal his face.

The Lucas/Prowse feud allegedly hit full steam ahead when it was believed Prowse told the press in 1983 that Darth Vader was going to die. Prowse claims he never made the statement because he didn’t know about the death of Vader at that time.

Prowse released an official statement about his ban on his website. Here’s what he had to say:

It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have “burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself” – no other reason given.

I have also been advised by the promoter of Paris Manga in September that LFL have requested no photo opportunities with the 501 Squadron, even though I am commander in chief of the 501.

Sincere apologies to all my fans who were hoping to meet with me – I shall miss you too. As you will see from my events page I will be at many conventions all over the world so we can still keep in touch.

It’s sad to realize that a 75 year old guy is able to piss off Lucas Films to the point where he would be banned from portraying the role he helped make famous. One of the best parts about attending events such as C5 is the realism featured by the real actors who played in their roles.

In other news R2D2 and C3PO are no longer allowed at Maker Faire. Okay that isn’t true, but it would be just as ridiculous.
