More than meets the eye? Well, kinda.
Standing forty feet tall and weighing six tons, this facsimile of Optimus Prime as seen in Michael Bay’s recent live-action movies has been built in Beijing‘s Green Dream Park, just outside of the “Bird’s Nest” stadium used in the 2008 Olympics (the stadium can be seen in the picture above, in the haze behind the robot).
The construction (it took all my will power just now not to type “constructicon”) stands as a monument to environmentalism and recycling, since it was built out of spare car parts, which took five truckloads to cart to the environmentally-themed park. The park is also reportedly home to a gigantic reclining sofa made of recycled paper.
Personally, I can’t stop thinking how cool Optimus Prime would look in front of my house. It would totally keep those goofballs across the street from constantly parking over here in the spot where I put out the trash bin.
That is so awesome, wish I could go see it.
The ironic thing about it though, is that it’s supposed to help promote environmentally friendly activities, yet it’s so hazy in that picture that you can barely see the Bird’s Nest.
