Black Rock Shooter OVA: A Work of Art or Random Doodles?

Black Rock Shooter OVA: A Work of Art or Random Doodles?

The Black Rock Shooter (BRS) OVA was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated anime released this year. Trailers for the anime have been out for quite a while, and the animation in them looked superb, but does the OVA match the quality shown in the trailers? In a way, yes, and in a way, no. The thing about the BRS anime is that it was split into two different parts: one in the real world, and one in a dark world where characters battle it out. If you go to Google and search for “black rock shooter ova review,” you’ll find plenty of blogs praising the animation quality. I was Read more »

150+ Comic-Con Costumes from Twitter

Scarecrow from the 'Batman: Arkham Asylum' video game

Ah, Comic-Con. That time of the year when freaks, geeks, and the downright inexplicable annually migrate to San Diego to pay tribute to the almighty Pop Culture. For many of them, their love is so great that they’re compelled to dress up in elaborate outfits and costumes — most of which are homemade. I grabbed over 150 of the best costumes, as seen on Twitpic, Yfrog, and other Twitter-related photo streams, and have compiled them into a gallery that’s turned out kind of like peopleofwalmart.com for the geek set. With huge thanks to all of the Comic-Con Twitterers out there, here goes… Read more »

A Phone Apps Infographic

A Phone Apps Infographic

Now that smartphones are the standard instead of the exception the app market is booming. Especially Apple’s Apps store is very successful. And not just because Apple sold so many iPhone’s, according to the infographic Blackberry sold more phones than Apple. I have a theory that one of the factors that Apple App store is so successful is because of how easy it is to buy and install an app. Most users aren’t very tech, just yesterday I was telling a friend that people should take a test before being allowed to use a smartphone. They don’t know more then a third of what the phone can do and are Read more »

A Twitterverse tour of Comic-Con

The exhibit hall, eerily quiet before the show opens.

Thank God for Twitter. Without it, we unable-to-attend Comic-Con would have to wait like, minutes, to find out what’s happening down in San Diego at Nerdvana. But thanks to the glories of Twitter and its many image posting services — like Twitpic and Yfrog — those down at the San Diego Convention Center can send out their pics of what’s happening to the entire world immediately. I always love walking around and checking out the show floor and all the ads and whatnot adorning the hallways. There also seem to be a bigger-than-ever amount of outdoor activities happening this year. So, swiped shamelessly right from Twitter, click through for a Read more »

Westboro Baptist Church Protests SDCC, Nerds Fight Back!

Westboro Baptist Church Protests SDCC, Nerds Fight Back!

If you’re unfamiliar with the Westboro Baptist Church, they are basically a group of morons who hate everyone. The group shows up at killed soldiers funerals and protest their military burials and they like to walk around with signs that say “Got Hates Fags” and other insulting slurs. However, there is one group the Westboro Baptist Church wasn’t ready to take on…Nerds! Tons and tons of glorious nerds! Topless Robot presented the picture above, which shows not the Westboro Church group, but rather hundreds of Nerds holding up signs at SDCC, signs that mock the “church,” including such gems as “God Loves Gay Robin” and “Superman Died For Your Sins.” Read more »

Dollhouse “Epitaphs” Comic Debuting At SDCC, Arriving With Season 2 DVDs

Dollhouse “Epitaphs” Comic Debuting At SDCC, Arriving With Season 2 DVDs

While Joss Whedon has promised he would never create a Dollhouse comic book, he never said anything about creating a spinoff from the series, now we’ve come to learn that he’ll release a comic called “Epitaphs” which conveys the story of several key characters who survive the takeover.  The comic will come bundled with season two DVDs. Here’s the synopsis for the comic book: Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, joined by longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Cliff Richards, take us on an intricate trip through the precise moment when the Active technology went global, and how the protagonists from Epitaph One and Two narrowly avoided death, and worse.Jed Whedon Read more »

Got a Geeky Tattoo?

Got a Geeky Tattoo?

Tattoos are making a comeback – no doubt about it. Gone are the days when people got ostracized for having ink on their bodies. I don’t know if it’s due to TV shows like LA Ink and the influence of celebrities with tattoos; or maybe, the wide acceptance of these shows and people is due to the changing perceptions of the general public. It’s like the chicken and the egg, really. In any case, it is safe to say that you can get a tattoo (or two) without getting all worked up about the implications. And who says only the bada#* guys get tattoos? Check out all our posts on Read more »
