Retailers have been saying for weeks now that the new Kinect motion control system for Xbox 360 would retail for $150, but consumers didn’t know whether this price was right or not. Turns out, it was. But there’s more…
What the retailers didn’t know is that the hardware is shipping along with a copy of Kinect Adventures, a game first shown off back at E3 that pits you in an obstacle course of sorts, where you have to jump, duck, and contort to solve various puzzles. Microsoft also revealed today that most Kinect games will be shipping at a $49 price point — $10 less than most high-end video games, and right on par with Microsoft’s primary competitor in the casual gaming market: the Nintendo Wii.
The $150 price point for the Kinect device itself puts it at a cozy $30 less than Sony’s motion controller, the PlayStation Move (which will retail for $180), which requires multiple gadgets (two handheld controllers and an “Eye” sensor) to work. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Kinect is a single, plug-and-play device that turns your body into the game controller.
A bundled 4GB Xbox 360 “slim” that comes with the Kinect device (and Kinect Adventures) is planned for $300, or you’ll be able to pick up the 4GB slim all by itself for just $200. The new 360 console goes on sale August 3rd in North America, while the Xbox/Kinect bundle will be available November 4th, at Kinect’s debut. A nice little bonus: the new Xbox 360 console will be upgradeable from 4GB in the future.

Hi Robin, where did you read that Playstation Move will retail for $180? I’m reading that Move is $50, the navigation add-on is $30, and the PS Eye is $70. And according to cinemablend.com, “A bundle of the Move. Eye, and Move launch title Sports Champions will be $99.99.” Thanks!
