Limbo is a shadowy, murky place rendered entirely black and white, without a hint of color. There’s a grainy quality to it, like you’re watching an old silent film. Which is appropriate since there’s no music or dialog anywhere in the game. And there’s only the barest hint of a story. Needless to say, Limbo is not the kind of puzzle/adventure game that comes along every day. Read more »

StarCraft II in Lego
StarCraft II has been out for a week or so now, and it looks like it is already dropping down the charts. This post is not really about the game itself, though, but a video created by the guys at Machinima. Whether or not the new game will have the same sustaining powers of the original, you ought to take a look at this recreation. StarCraft and Lego put together – it was bound to happen sooner or later, but how can you go wrong with this combination? Read more »
5 Harem Anime That Are More Than Just T&A
Harems have become such an integral part of anime that now there is not a single season where there isn’t at least one new one. Most of these follow the same basic formula: average guy + special circumstances = 3 to 30 girls wanting to get in average guy’s pants. The special circumstances can range from something as simple as a childhood promises to something more extraordinary like obtaining special powers. In any case, the male lead always seems to suddenly gain the ability to make the opposite gender go crazy over him. After watching several harem anime, most people begin to lose interest since they recycle most of the Read more »
10 Hottest Games of Fall 2010
Fall 2010 is going to be one of the hottest seasons ever for gamers. Though the economy is still sluggish, the arrival of the new motion controllers — Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Move — and a slew of new A-list titles, and we could have ourselves a record quarter for the gaming industry. Let’s look at the ten hottest titles coming to a console near you in the next two or three months. (And fanboys, start cracking those knuckles: you’re invited to gripe about all of the big games I didn’t include…) 10) Call of Duty: Black Ops Read more »
Watch Lightsabers Go On & Off
In 2.5 minutes, here is every single time a lightsaber is ignited and retracted in all six Star Wars movies. The video’s maker says that he only included visual, on-screen actions, and not the times when you merely hear a lightsaber being turned on or off, off-screen. I’m not sure what the point of the video is, other than to satisfy a certain geeky curiosity. You may be surprised to find that only a handful of these lightsaber actions come from the original trilogy. The vast majority of them, in fact, seem to come from Episodes II and III. Read more »
Post-International Beer Day History Lesson
How fare your heads the day after celebrating International Beer Day? This is the first year that I actually went out to celebrate the holiday, and last night’s experience will surely be repeated in 2011. All those different kinds of beer did take their toll, though. My Friday night’s going to be as tame as a little girl taking a nap. While on this “low time,” what better companion can I have than an infographic on the history of beer? The existence of this infographic was actually made known to me by another of our own Forever Geekers. Yesterday, I was torn between this piece and the Oatmeal comics – Read more »
Punisher Vs 28 Days Later?
When I picked up the Marvel Universe Vs the Punisher, I wasn’t that excited, expecting something between the Marvel Zombies standard fare (yes, I said that, I, the founder of the Zombie Watch) and Sergio Aragones Massacre Marvel. Not exactly thrilling me, but still the completist in me demanded that I read it. It was nice to see that this wasn’t actually one of the zombieverse spin-off worlds, even if all of mankind and the heroes were being transmutated into cannibalistic savages. The set-up was convincing, no alien Sentry raining down from the skies for a bite but a slow, scary process. Yet this was not even the draw of Read more »
Veruca Salt Speaks: Give ‘Em The Spotlight, NOW!
It is I, the Veruca Salt of comic book geeks returned to make more unrealistic demands in the hope of someday being appointed supreme ruler of the comic universe and given free reign to resurrect titles, bestow series on worthy characters, and create super groups with little more than a snap of my wee dainty fingers. Having already addressed the pressing issue of defunct comics I’d like to bring back earlier this week, I’m now turning my greedy eyes towards the individual characters I’d like to see receive their own titles, for each to enjoy at least 15 minutes of geek fame. In no special order, I’d grant the following Read more »
Cheers! It’s International Beer Day!
So what are you doing tonight? If you don’t have plans yet, you might want to go out and celebrate International Beer Day (IBD) with your friends. IBD, which is celebrated on August 5, is the brainchild of genius Jesse Avshalomov. Together with Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez, he founded the special day in 2007. Why celebrate International Beer Day? The founders give a three-fold purpose: To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer. To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer. To bring the world together under the united banner of beer by celebrating the beers of all nations Read more »
