This train wreck defies explanation, but here’s what I can tell you: take the theme song to Star Trek: The Next Generation, and add a singing Trekkie, in uniform — with lyrics he wrote himself. His voice is actually pretty decent. Watch for the toy Enterprise cameo that’s oh-so-realistic. It’s because of people like this that geeks are such a clichéd punchline. I don’t know whether to laugh or cringe. Read more »

'Star Wars Uncut' Launches. Hint: It's The Strangest Fan Made Movie Remake Ever!
Star Wars Uncut is the culmination of work completed by hundreds of nerdy film-making Star Wars Fans. The premises is simple, assign 15-second sections of Star Wars to the ultimate Star Wars fans and have them recreate those scenes from the original series using their Twitter accounts, animation, action figures, live action film-making and pretty much any other means they deem suitable. The outcome of this project is a weird mixture of eclectic movie making styles fueled by many creative touches and in many cases the need to work on the smallest budgets possible, even if those budgets only require contributing 15 seconds of footage. Of Eyeglasses, Geeks, and Nerds
“When it comes to eyeglasses, it’s cool to look like a nerd.” What say you? I have had to wear glasses since I was in third grade, so I don’t really know about glasses looking cool. (Yeah, talk about looking cool to a 9-year-old who had to wear humongous pink glasses. Oh, and yes, I hated pink.) If we are going to go with the stereotype, though, eyeglasses are indeed usually associated with the nerdy type. For some reason, eyeglasses seem to be the “in” thing. It follows that looking like a nerd is cool now? Read more »
Lucasfilm R2-D2 iPhone Case Coming Soon
My wife and I are huge fans of Star Wars. Anytime the movies are replayed on Spike, we all tune in and lose a few hours in the force. I personally don’t hate the first three (I-III) as much as most people, even though they are difficult to follow at times, so I’ll watch them all. One of my favorite characters is the fun little droid, R2-D2. Read more »
Milo: Fully Interactive, Virtual Boy
Back when Kinect was first introduced — you know, back when it was known as “Project Natal” — gaming god Peter Molyneux demoed an interactive simulation that featured a real-life human interacting with a virtual boy named Milo. They had an entire conversation, could read each other’s emotions, exchanged a pencil drawing, and more. It was cuh-razy. Interaction at a level the gaming world had never seen before. The eleven minute video above features Molyneux giving an updated demo of the technology at a TED talk that took place earlier today. Now, Milo can learn, listen, recognize, and respond just like a real eleven-year-old boy. It’s utterly astounding and points Read more »
This Is What Would Happen If William Shatner Directed Star Trek [Video]
My favorite viral videos are those that have “characters” who may be less “character” and more real life, take for example this Star Trek fan who created his own “shout out” to the major characters of the popular TV series. With lyrics like “Here they go in a large tin can, give me warp five as fast as you can” I don’t get why this guy hasn’t already landed a jingle deal. Enough babbling, here’s the video with real life “special effects” and a decently authentic looking Trekker outfit. Read more »
Jim Henson on How to Make Puppets
Many of us grew up watching Sesame Street and The Muppets. Who can forget the adorable muppets with their large eyes that seem to pop out of their faces, which are made even more striking by their wide mouths? Of course, their own unique characteristics make them even more remarkable. Miss Piggy? Kermit the Frog? Rowlf the Dog? Gonzo the Great? For sure, if you’re one of those who did grow up with a particular attachment to these characters , you have probably experienced nostalgia every now and then. In the course of my browsing the Web today, I came across an obscure but quite interesting video with Mr. Jim Read more »
Brigade and the Sixth Gun
When the ‘Image explosion’ erupted in the mid-nineties, Rob Liefeld’s contribution could (in retrospect) be considered to be the weakest of line. Still, the stories came through thick and fast, Youngblood, Brigade, Youndblood Strikefile, Chapel, Bloodstryke, more Youngblood, Glory, New Men, Badrock and various ‘has-beens’ from the other companies, Supreme, even more Youngblood… You get the picture. The ideas flew as thick and fast as the multiple variant covers, but the execution was less than riveting, seeming little more than generic. As with many of Liefeld’s projects, shipping on the time was also a problem. Read more »
What to Expect When Expecting (New TV for Geeks)
The new television year is fast approaching, and that means the timeless tradition of the usual slew of mostly crap shows making their over-hyped debuts is upon us. Admittedly, this honor is usually reserved for sitcoms and dubious dramas, but this could prove a particularly interesting year for geeks. It’s possible, if things are handled exactly right, that we could emerge the luckiest audience of them all. Either all our shows will be highly entertaining, or just enough will be so utterly awful as to produce unintentional hilarity. Win win. Several channels are weighing in with brand-spanking new geek programming, including NBC, ABC, and AMC. Let’s take a look at Read more »
'F*ck Me, Ray Bradbury' Is A Catchy, Weird Pop Song [NSFW]
I’ve heard a lot of pop song parody’s in my day, but I’ve never heard a song dedicated to a sci-fi writer born in 1920 by a hot chick in 2010, but that’s exactly what we have with F*ck Me, Ray Bradbury, a song dedicated to the man most famous for his book Fahrenheit 451. The song is a tongue in cheek parody/tribute to the wirter and features a hot chick (Rachel Bloom) singing her heart out while practically drooling over Bradbury. The video is shot in high-definition and was written and performed by Rachel Bloom, while the video is Directed and edited by Paul Briganti. Take a look at Read more »
