Remember my post on David Lanham’s avatar creation service conducted via FaceTime? Yesterday, I saw a comment from another group providing a similar service. Dubbed SuperAvatar, the group offers hand-drawn digital caricatures. They offer several different styles. Take a look to see if their work will catch your interest.
This one’s the Portrait Style.
I think it’s a pretty good representation, isn’t it? I am not sure if the mermaid idea was the client’s or if they guys at SuperAvatar come up with options themselves. If you do click on the order form, though, they will ask you to enter details regarding your avatar. That should allow you to customize the background, colors, and style.
Here’s another style, the Cartoon.
This is the cheapest option. They are offering it at an intro price of only $5. Now that is way cheaper than the services I previously wrote about ($50 for that)!
If you’re a fan of Photo Booth, then you’ll be interested in the SuperBooth style, shown below.
It IS a fun concept, and I totally get why people like this style a lot. It will cost you a bit more, though – $10.
So here’s the complete line up:
- Cartoon
- Portrait
- Caricature
- SuperBooth
You can visit their photo gallery at Flickr and order your own avatar from SuperAvatar’s shop. What do you think? If you think David Lanham’s services are a bit steep, are these rates better?
My previous question remains, though: what drives people to have customized avatars made? I still don’t get it…

Thanks Noemi.
George the mermaid was client’s idea. We encourage clients to come up with innovative concepts, like in front of brooklyn bridge etc. For the same reason we ask our clients their concepts upfront while ordering. Ofcourse the pricing is subjective to client’s demand for a particular background. You can view some of our other work on Flickr which includes all the styles and some more custom themes – http://www.flickr.com/photos/superavatar/
