Guillermo del Toro Working on “Huge Games” with THQ

Guillermo del Toro Working on “Huge Games” with THQ

This is exciting news even for the non-gamer. Geeky director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth), aka “He Who Almost Directed The Hobbit,” is working with video game publisher THQ on several entirely new game IPs. Del Toro says that they will be “huge games, huge worlds, [with] long deadlines.” To drive that last point home, he says that three-year development cycles will be used for each game, so he doesn’t expect the first one to arrive until 2013. He tells MTV News that he can’t say much about this first game, but he describes it as “horror… but a very different type of horror game. It’s not survival horror. Read more »

Muse in 8-Bit

Muse in 8-Bit

I know the 8-bit craze is nothing new, but I just discovered several videos of Muse’s songs that have been converted into this format.  Needless to say, I have been watching/listening the videos a lot since yesterday.  (I am sure you know how much fun it can be to play around with music.) Muse may not be every geek’s choice when it comes to music, but this one has a thing for Matthew Bellamy and his gang.  One, he does have a British accent (yeah, some are suckers for that).  Two, he is not bad looking at all (ask Kate Hudson).  Three, he is a musical genius! (Maybe I should Read more »

Astounding New LEGO Artist You Must Follow

Astounding New LEGO Artist You Must Follow

His name is Mike Doyle, and he’s about to rock your face off with nothing but plastic bricks. I don’t have much in the way of background on Doyle, but I must assume that he has a background in art or photography, as his eye is finely-tuned to amazing levels of detail. On his new blog, his first post explains how he recently visited Legoland California with his son and nephews, and got bitten by the LEGO bug. After exploring online and finding a bustling community of AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO), he decided it was time to take the plunge himself. His first work is what you see above. Read more »

Doctor Who Christmas Special Spotted In BBC Holiday Promo [Video]

Doctor Who Christmas Special Spotted In BBC Holiday Promo [Video]

The New Doctor Who Christmas Special looks awesome…Okay I’m not really sure if it looks awesome, since the new BBC fall and winter promo video only shows about 3 seconds of the special…but since it’s Doctor Who I’m going to make the claim that it’s awesome and if you don’t like that…tough. Watch the promo and you’ll catch the scene. Can you spot Michael Gambon? Yes that Gambon, as he asks Matthew Smith who he is and he responds “the ghost of Christmas past.” Also note that the part of the video clip where Smith is surrounded by Nazi flags is not part of Doctor Who, but a totally different Read more »

Ink Cartridge Art

Ink Cartridge Art

There’s literally nothing artists won’t use as a creative medium. Proof positive: Faith Pearson’s diorama models that use nothing but black & white and colour ink cartridges. The UK’s Ink and Media Blog assigned Pearson — an artist who specializes in “toy theater making” — to create something out of a bunch of ink cartridges, similar to these genuine canon ink cartridges, that were going to be thrown away. (No recycling? Say it ain’t so! No, seriously — Al Gore will have them killed.) She blew their minds when she came back with these incredible images and scenes depicting iconic science fiction and fantasy movies. Pearson used no Photoshopping or Read more »

Blood, Knives, and Bodies Galore

Blood, Knives, and Bodies Galore

Dexter fans had been waiting for September 2010 for far too long now, and the wait has been worth it. Just last weekend, the fifth season of Dexter premiered on Show Time, with countless fans celebrating. There were even premier parties held to mark this momentous occasion. Of course, having the show back on also means that we have to wait for the next episodes to be aired (and some of them shot) – bad news for people with low EQ like me. Still, the good news is that there are tons of other stuff that we can get our hands on while waiting for next week. Read more »

Where Batman Keeps his iPhone

Where Batman Keeps his iPhone

Universal Designs Limited has just released this replica of the utility belt worn by Christian Bale’s Batman, and it can be yours for a measly $150. As you can see, it’s even functional, containing pouches for your phone and keys. Crafted entirely from cow hide leather that’s been given a “polished bronze” finish, the Batman “TDK Utility Pouch” is fitted with chrome studs and is even adjustable in size. It looks like it’s intended to be worn overtop Universal Designs’ Batman Leather Motorcycle Suit. Only 750 are being made. But come on, other than cosplay or some kind of superhero fetish that frankly I don’t want to think about, I can’t Read more »

Are You a Lonely, Pathetic Gamer? You Don’t Have to Be.

Well, you don’t have to be lonely anyway. New online social platform GameCrush allows male video game enthusiasts to play their favorite game with a female player who’s easy on the eyes. For $.60 a minute, you can pick your own pretty lady to play your favorite Xbox 360 or browser-based game with, and of course chat with in a small browser window the entire time. Gives a whole new meaning to “level grinding,” eh? Read more »

Comics Of The World

Comics Of The World

I must have been living under a rock to not have discovered that the Justice League Of America later this month is set to team up with Teshkeel Comics’ The 99. After all, even President Obama has apparently praised Teshkeel as a much needed effort in promoting the peaceful face of the teachings of Islam, rather than the fundamentalist visage that we are all too familiar with. Now I have been lucky enough to find the first two issues of The 99, which I found thoroughly enjoyable, but since then later issues have seemed as available as rocking horse poop. Reading the press coverage I was amazed to find out Read more »
