Big news for 3D movies: All six Star Wars films are coming to theaters with full 3D conversions. Only unlike recent films that were filmed in 2D and converted to 3D with less-than-spectacular results (*cough*ClashoftheTitans), this being Star Wars, Lucasfilm is not rushing the conversion process, using painstaking attention to detail to give it the best conversion possible. “Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right,” says John Knoll of ILM. “It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect Read more »

Nintendo 3DS Coming Q1 2011, Will Cost the Same as 250GB Xbox
Nintendo held a big press conference yesterday in Tokyo, during which they released finalized details about their new portable gaming device, the 3DS. (The 3DS is Nintendo’s successor to the DS, with upgraded specs and a 3D screen that requires no special glasses.) The big news: the 3DS is releasing in Japan (which always gets Nintendo’s stuff first) on February 26, 2011, and then sometime in March 2011 in North America and Europe. The price? It’ll be 25,000 Yen in Japan, which translates to about $300 in the U.S. Yes, that’s right: the price of portable gaming devices is catching up to their television console brothers (though the U.S. price Read more »
Oh Noes! The Sky is Falling!
News that a tiny asteroid, dubbed 2010 ST3, is on a potential collision course with Earth has emerged from the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System. 2010 ST3 has a diameter of 50 meters, so yeah…it’s a wee one. But even the most wee of asteroids can pack a mean punch when they hit the ground. The impact of an asteroid like 2010 ST3 can be the equivalent of unleashing a 20 megaton bomb. Not such a tiny repercussion. 2010 ST3 is currently 20 million miles away from us, and in no hurry to get here. It won’t arrive in our little corner of space until 2098. So we Read more »
Captain America’s Submarine Will Kick Bat-Sub Butt [Avengers Pic]
On set photos continue to surface for Captain America: The First Avenger and the newest photo from the set features the Captain’s futuristic looking submarine. Honestly I think it looks much more cool than the Bat Submarine Bruce Wayne has been seen cruising around in. According to The Echo the photo (shown above) was taken on a closed set in the UK where the streets and waterfront had been dressed up to look like 1940s New York. Read more »

Trek Support Concept "Power Station" Backpack
All day today, Metallica’s “Wherever I May Roam” was playing in my head. (Perhaps the song being listed 10 times on my On-the-go Playlist had something to do with that.) While I was enjoying the music and the words as I roamed the streets of a strange city, my back was telling me just how much of a hassle it has been to lug around my laptop and all the other stuff that usually go with it. Then I had to deal with the fact that the battery died on me after sitting at Starbucks all afternoon. That “ordeal” led me to looking up backpacks that might make it easier Read more »
Kenny Baker Gets Plucked From R2-D2, Replaced By Big Person
R2-D2 was so small during the making of Star Wars that a little person (Kenny Baker) had to crawl inside to control R2-D2′s every action. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the original R2-D2 it’s not made for normal sized folks, but now that has changed. A fan of the Star Wars series created his very own, larger, R2-D2 figure which he is able to crawl inside of and then operate just like the original. The video below shows the fans creation with working lights and sounds. Read more »
Your Own Batmobile
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. You can now order your very own officially-licensed 1966-era Batmobile. Assuming you have a spare $149,999 lying around. Fiberglass Freaks claims that their Batmobile is an exact replica of the car from the campy Adam West/Burt Ward TV show, and it really works. You even get Batman‘s signature booster rocket that spits flames out of the back of the car, as well as the red siren lightand all the other trimmings (but no weaponry, sadly). The car sports a GM 350 crate engine and new transmission so you can at least look like that flame-throwing booster is giving you super speed. Everything about Read more »

Edward Norton Lobbying For Batman 3 Role
It looks like Edward Norton is ready to move on from the controversy created when he wasn’t offered the role as the Hulk in the Avengers movie. It turns out he may be lobbying to be in the next Batman flick. Norton told IGN: “Chris Nolan’s making the best ones out there by far I’d do one [a superhero movie] with him. He’s set a new bar for sure, and I think he’s done a great, great job.” He was asked by the entertainment site if he would like to be cast as The Riddler to which he replied “Your guys can put their votes in on that.” Read more »
