Forget Clash of the Titans. Here’s an electronic chapbook that will get the geek in you drooling like there’s no tomorrow: Clash of the Geeks. This chapbook (according to Wikipedia: generic term to cover a particular genre of pocket-sized booklet, popular from the sixteenth through to the later part of the 19th century. No exact definition can be applied.) was launched last week and is the brainchild of Wil Wheaton and John Scalzi. Wheaton needs no introduction – I assume – but some may not be familiar with John Scalzi, a science fiction author in his own right. Some may recognize him as being the Creative Consultant for Stargate: Universe. Read more »

Finally: An Affordable 'Inception' Top
Ever been afraid you’re inside a dream? At last, you can find out for certain. Since Inception hit theaters, fans have been on a mad hunt for the ultimate accessory: the tiny metal top “totem” used by Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Dom Cobb. Some authentic replicas made by Warner Bros. and given out to fans at PR events have sold on eBay for upwards of $60 and even more. It’s just a teeny metal toy, for crying out loud! Fortunately, I just came across a retailer who’s come to the rescue with a top totem that sells for just $5.39 + shipping. Furthermore, this retailer is a wholesale dealer used to Read more »
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi – Review
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi (otherwise known as Ookami-san and Seven Companions) is a short romance/comedy anime based on the Ookami-san light novels written by Okita Masashi. It centers around the members of the Otogi Bank, a high school club that “loans” out favours. These favours can range from things like helping someone get a date to battling it out with thugs from a rival school. The more loans that the bank gives out, the more people they have to collect favours from, which really helps with some of their tougher requests. One of the bank’s members is Ryouko Ookami, an aggressive and tomboyish girl that packs a mean punch. Read more »
New Comic Book Hero “Silver Scorpion” Is A Muslim Boy In A Wheelchair
Sure we have a blind superhero in Dare Devil, but it’s not too often we see a super hero in a wheelchair, it’s even less often that the character is Muslim, but that’s the idea behind “The Silver Scorpion” a new comic from Liquid Comics. Apparently the comic started when a US philanthropist who was inspired by President Obama’s attempt to reach out to the Muslim world by meeting with disabled American and Syrian kids. The author says that when each child asked what superpower they wanted, none of them said they wanted their disabilities healed, hence the new hero is wheelchair bound, albeit in the coolest chair we’ve ever Read more »
The TRON Video Game is going to ROCK
You have to see this. I’m not even kidding. This is footage of in-game play from Tron: Evolution, which was first shown off to attendees at PAX a few weeks back. I honestly forgot it was in my inbox until I just stumbled across it — and was floored by what I saw. I may be a bit late on this one, we love all things Tron with unashamed fanboy glee, so I just had to show it to you. Tron: Evolution is described as a third-person title that bridges the decades-long gap between the original Tron movie and the upcoming film Tron: Legacy. Read more »
3D Pancakes
I am in awe of these 3D pancakes. For a guy “just trying to make some cool pancakes for his daughter,” Jim (he only gives his first name) is a master, chronicling his daily adventures in pancake making on his blog, and I tip my lightsaber to him. He also makes 2D pancakes that are quite impressive, such as this iPhone. But it’s the 3D ones that make me all kinds of giddy. I mean, have you ever seen pancakes that can stand up on their own before? Among Jim’s masterful creations: the dinosaur skeleton seen above, a crane, a ferris wheel, a biplane, a carousel, a volcano, a birdhouse, Read more »
Illuminati Inspired Playing Cards
Besides being a gadget geek, Harry Potter fan and bacon lover I also have a thing for secret societies. Not any kind of secret society but most specific ‘The Illuminati’. I don’t remember when I first heard of them but since then I have read about them in Dan Brown’s book, ‘Angels and Demons’ and in several articles here and there. I’m such a geek that I carry the American one dollar bill with the All-Seeing Eye on it in my wallet. I live in an euro country so I always have this bill on me for if I happen upon a conversation about secret societies. So far I have Read more »
“Get A Geek in Five Easy Lessons” – FAIL?
Girls who want to “get” a geek, you might learn a thing or two from Leslie Sobon’s post at AMD – or NOT. In her post, she outlines five “easy lessons” on how to bag one of them tech guys that you have been eyeing. Now you can just click on that link and get started on your lessons. This could be the end of my post. Then again, I don’t think I can just sit here and not say anything. Now, don’t get me wrong – I could very well be one of the last ones to go all gung ho about feminism/sexism – but there is something about Read more »

Time it is a’changing
I had my reservations about the new main Avengers title yet I have to confess it is growing on me. I may have called it formulaic in the past, but it is a tried and true formula that is working, and it has been nice to see Killraven wandering around again. I can’t say that these new ‘Avengers Children’ are all that impressive yet they have hardly had more than a few panels so far. It would be nice to think that they will last longer than the version of the New Mutants that appeared in the Nightmares of Future Past annual crossover of 1996. (I always wanted to see Read more »
