Star Wars Environment

Star Wars Environment

If you are a true Star Wars fan and you wonder what it would be like to be on one of the planets like Hoth or Helska surrounded by cold and technology then Norwegian island Spitsbergen is the place for you. Spitsbergen lies in the Arctic circle where the sun is always above the horizon from late April to late August. From mid November till end January it is civil polar night meaning that artificial light must be used at all times as there is no sun during the day. Read more »

Archaeologists Discover Lost Civilization Under The Melting Arctic

Archaeologists Discover Lost Civilization Under The Melting Arctic

Sheets of ice along the Arctic have continued to melt at alarming rates and with that melting has come a new discovery. Archaeologists at a melt site in Norway have discovered a wealth of items that include weapons and shoes among other everyday items. The find is believed to be from thousands of years ago, well before Vikings roamed the area. As glaciers continue to melt and ice retreats in areas around the world, archaeologists continue to discover new civilizations. As io9 points out, last summer a 10,000 year-old atlatl (a hunting weapon) was found as ice thawed. Researchers must work at break neck speeds to gather items which can Read more »

Custom Comic Book Wedding Invites

Custom Comic Book Wedding Invites

Getting married anytime soon?  If I can’t change your mind about that, how about just checking out this really cool store on Etsy?   The store is manned by a husband and wife team who actually came up with the idea of using comic book covers as a theme for their own wedding invitations back in 2007. The idea of having a “unique” theme for one’s wedding is not all that unique anymore these days.  Just earlier this year, I heard about a friend of a friend of a friend whose wedding was Star Wars themed.  Everyone – from bride and groom to guests – had to come donning their best Read more »

5 Reasons ‘Power Gig’ Could De-Throne Other Guitar Games

5 Reasons ‘Power Gig’ Could De-Throne Other Guitar Games

When I first heard about Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, like everyone else, I figured it was just another Rock Band/Guitar Hero clone. The “rhythmic gaming” genre is a very lucrative business, after all, so it’s a wonder we haven’t seen tons of wannabes. But the more I see of Power Gig and it’s high-quality hardware (like that guitar you see above), the more I’m convinced that it has the potential to be — dare I say it? — superior. Here are 5 reasons that Power Gig will be a major player. Read more »

Rare Exports: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town…To Rip Your Face Of

Rare Exports: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town…To Rip Your Face Of

What if everything we knew about Santa Claus was wrong, what if instead of bringing toys to all the good boys and girls he instead found out who was naughty and nice, then killed them. That’s the basic premise behind Rare Exports, a new movie in the spirit of the holiday horror genre. In this telling of the Santa Claus story, Old Saint Nick has been trapped in a mountain in the Northern part of the world and apparently that seclusion has caused him to go mad with rage. With taglines like “Forget Everything You Know About Santa” and “It’s All Lies” how could this movie not rock! Actually the Read more »

Transformers in Russia

I have no idea why the two dueling dudes in this video — who are somewhere in Russia — are wearing nothing but shorts. One of them clearly likes showing off his physique; the other doesn’t have much to show off (I can relate). But nobody watches Michael Bay’s Transformers movies for the humans, and the same can be said for this impressive fan film, which features two robots-in-disguise as cell phones as well as one… well, that would be telling. Just watch. Read more »

Need More Culture in Your Life? Watch a Klingon Opera

Need More Culture in Your Life? Watch a Klingon Opera

Going to the opera is not everyone’s cup of tea, but this new opera being showcased in The Hague (Netherlands) just might make even the staunchest “opponents” of opera go watch it.  Dubbed “u,” the opera is the first production ever to be sung completely in an alien language.  Foreign language enthusiast, are you?  Forget it – those operas are nothing compared to “u,” which is in Klingon! (At least in terms of novelty.) Trekkies would already know what “u” means in English, but for the benefit of those of us who do not speak the language, it translates to “universe” or “universal.” That should give us an idea what Read more »

A Pink-Haired Holmes

A Pink-Haired Holmes

Japan thinks up of some strange ideas when it comes to making a new anime, but one of the things that they also commonly do is take an existing story or person and totally twist it around. This has been done with deities from religions most people have never heard of, legendary warriors, and historical Japanese figures. Sometimes they’ll twist the story around so much that it no longer has any relation to the original except maybe the names of some characters. A twisted story is what you can expect from Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, which is a new anime produced by JC Staff and will be airing this October. Read more »

First Look at the Spider-Man Musical

This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, director Julie Taymor appeared along with a satellite uplink with U2′s Bono and The Edge to show off some of the work they’ve been doing on Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, the long-in-the-works Spider-Man musical that’s coming to Broadway.
