Following up on the “Summer of Arcade” that featured awesome downloadable games like Limbo, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, and Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light, Xbox Live Arcade is planning another month-long set of four A-list games, all of which look just as wildly creative and original as the summer titles. Here’s a full breakdown of all four games, complete with screenshots.
Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post for a full gallery of screenshots from all four games!
Hydrophobia
A third-person adventure/shooter with amazing graphics where the big selling point is the ultra-realistic water in the game’s proprietary engine. In the near future, a utilitarian society has developed, and a luxury cruise ship allowing the wealthy elite to live far from the cares of the rest of the world starts to take on water. The game takes place in indoor spaces that are being flooded as you try to traverse through the ship and ultimately escape. Guaranteed to make you afraid of the water, Hydrophobia arrives on September 29th for $15.
Comic Jumper
From the kooky minds at Twisted Pixel Games (‘Splosion Man) comes Comic Jumper, starring Captain Smiley, a comic book superhero whose star is fading. He’s given a base of operations and “Comic Jumping” technology by his friends at Twisted Pixel, allowing him to leap into other comic books and save misguided plotlines. Ha! The ambitious game features four comic book worlds with four completely different art styles, eleven missions, eight mini games, and a cool operations base. Arrives October 6th for $15.
Pinball FX 2
Better graphics than the original and tons of fancy new features like more accurate physics, customized settings, and multiplayer games you can play against your friends. There’s even a split-screen multiplayer mode for single-system play. There are new in-game leaderboards for comparing scores, and seven different camera options so you can get the best possible view of your table. Speaking of table, while the game itself is free, there are four individual tables to demo and buy in-game. The first announced table is themed around ancient Persia. Pinball FX 2 arrives on my birthday, aka October 13th.
Super Meat Boy
Last but definitely not least comes this old-school platformer in the vein of Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog. But this ain’t your daddy’s platformer; this one comes with in-game humor that’s so bizarrely adult, it skates the boundaries of good taste. For example, the main villain is a fetus in a jar wearing a suit and a monocle. Super Meat Boy is expected to be one of the biggest hits of the Game Feast, thanks to its 300+ levels, epic boss fights, and a hero made of raw meat who leaves a trail of blood everywhere he goes. October 20th, $15.
