Forget Monet and his ability to provide his own impression of his surroundings, NASA this past week had an artist take infrared impressions from the Hubble Space Telescope and a ground-based telescope and then create artwork from what they believe the galaxy looks like. The images on this page were taken from NASA’s Image of the Day and showcases the core of our galaxy and it’s nearly 2,000 stars. The image according to io9 showcases the “densest known gathering of young stars in our galaxy.” Here’s an even more detail piece of the artwork: Side Note: Don’t actually forget Money, his artwork still kicks this artworks butt and if he Read more »

The Week in Game Vids
First up is a little 30-second commercial that’s not so much a trailer as a live-action Halloween wish, from Dead Space 2. One of the biggest news items of the week was Hybrid, an upcoming FPS from the makers of Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life. It’s a big deal because a hardened shooter the last thing you’d expect from a formerly kid-friendly game maker. A new gameplay trailer for Disney’s Epic Mickey that shows off some truly epic gameplay. Also in the news this week was this sort of-unveiling for the “Shopping Channel” that will be available on the Nintendo 3DS. Here’s a new look at the new GoldenEye‘s St. Read more »
Tim Burton, Thanks For Not Making Superman In The ’90s [Costume Pics]
During the later part of the 1990s Tim Burton was asked to write Superman Lives in an attempt to bring the franchise back to the masses, but thank goodness it was one movie Burton was never able to bring to life. Why would I say such things about such a great director? One word: Costume! As if the script by Kevin Smith which completely removed the ability for Superman to fly wasn’t bad enough, Burton wanted to put Superman in the outfit shown seen above. The photo was posted by Designer Steve Johnson and features the “Electric Superman” from the nineties. Here are some more photos of the suit: Read more »
Peanuts Was Drawn For Adults
In 1977 David Desmond wrote a letter to the creator of Peanuts, Charles M. Schulz. He wrote Mr. Schulz to tell him how much he enjoys Peanuts and to ask how Mr. Schulz managed to create a comic for kids that also appeals to adults. Much to his surprise Charles M. Schulz wrote him back with a surprising statement, that Peanuts is drawn for adults from the point of view of a child. According to Mr. Schulz a lot of the dialogue is beyond a child’s comprehension. If you are familiar with Peanuts you know a lot of the dialogue is about life and life lessons. As for David Desmond Read more »

Time Traveler Caught on Film?
Picture this: you’re from a future when time travel is possible, and you decide — just for kicks — to go back to the Hollywood premiere of a Charlie Chaplin movie in the roaring 20s. You even dress the part, to blend in. But you hit a snag when you accidentally wind up being filmed as part of coverage of the enormous crowd attending the event. And to make matters worse, the cameras just happen to be on you while you’re talking on your cell phone. That’s the claim of Irish filmmaker George Clarke, who discovered a mysterious woman who appears to be talking on a cell phone while attending Read more »
These Robots Make “Fails” Look Like “Wins”
Pop quiz, guys! Can anyone tell me the Three Laws of Robotics according to Isaac Asimov? I have no doubts that you all were able to rattle out the three laws without hesitation, but have you heard of this competition that actually aims to break the Second and Third Laws of Robotics? I can hear you thinking “Now, that’s what I’m talking about!” The competition is called Antimov Competition, and it was held last October 16 in Boulder, Colorado. The concept behind the competition is to create robots that complete trivial tasks “in the most inefficient and laborious way possible.” Additionally, the robots need to destroy themselves while completing the Read more »
Blast From The Past
One of the franchises that never fails is the Terminator. From movies to the TV series and an endless stream of mini-series and even the odd novel or two (which I highly recommend). Terminator 1984 from Dark Horse is a cut above even those talented offerings. Written by Zack Whedon (yes, that Whedon, Josh’s brother who we have seen as a script-writer on Angel and nowadays on Fringe), the series is set partially during the very first film. Taking advantage of the Terminator universe’s malleable timeline, a friend of Kyle Reese travels back to the original events in an effort to save Reese, to ensure that his lover Paige survives Read more »
First Look at Chris Evans as Captain America
Marvel Entertainment has released the first official film stills from next summer’s Captain America: The First Avenger, via this week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly, which hits newsstands tomorrow. The pics include our first good look at Evans in Cap’s uniform, out of uniform, and a few uniform variations — including the delta-shaped shield — as well as the very first glimpse of Hugo Weaving as a pre-transformation Red Skull. Okay, bring on the first trailer, Marvel. Read more »
PlayStation Wants to Reward Hardcore Users
In 2011, Sony is going to reward players for being mega-fans, through a new “PlayStation Rewards” program. The overall concept sounds a bit like PlayStation Plus, just without having to pay for it. But Sony insists it’s more than that. The program is going to reward players based on user rankings of “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” These three rankings are determined by how much you play a game, download demos, play PlayStation Home, use the PlayStation.com Forums, answer PSN surveys, and buy stuff on the PlayStation Store. Higher user rankings will get you greater access to stuff like exclusive Home avatars and content, themes, events, giveaways, and entry in special sweepstakes. PlayStation Read more »
