Did you know that every 14 days a language dies Most geeks love playing with language. Sadly too often too little is known about languages or the language families. While not everyone ought to be a polyglot, knowing more than one language is always a bonus. Having an insight in languages and their families can make learning another language easier even. This infographic looks at the most widespread language families, their use and also at the how many languages are known to have only very few (native) speakers anymore. The team of Infographiclabs created this graphic, which first appeared on Freelance Writing Jobs. Read more »

Get Your Buzz On With These Star Trek Drinks
You know how sometimes your days go by in a blur? These past two weeks have been like that for me, but it’s all good. With a little juice here and there, everything just seemed to fall right into place. Yes, my name is Noemi Twigg, but no, I am not an alcoholic. I do appreciate a good drink, though. (Who doesn’t?) If you share the same sentiments about alcoholic drinks AND if you’re a Star Trek fan, here is a bunch of drinks that will definitely not leave you wanting. Then again, you just might want to keep on drinking, if only to sustain the whatever illusion you may Read more »
Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt – A First Look
One of the new anime airing this season is called Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Unlike your conventional anime, Panty and Stocking takes on a rather unique art style that is reminiscent of the American cartoon The Powerpuff Girls. Other similarities are that they both involve girls saving the city from evil, and each episode contains two sub-episodes. That’s about as far as the similarities go, however, which is abundantly clear when you watch the anime. Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is about two angels (named Panty and Stocking) that have been kicked out of heaven and must collect Heaven Coins to basically pay their way back in. To get Read more »
Come Out of Your Feed Reader, Get off Twitter! Check Our New Design Out!
It has taken us a really long time to decide whether to redesign or not. In all truth I was asked early 2009 already if FG needed a new design but there was something about the old design. The brand that ForeverGeek is had grown and was really recognisable but… times have changed and our content has changed and become more and more visual, with lots of images and video. “…we want something simpler but spiffier” Some days ago I already posted a teaser about the new design. We had finally decided to change and brought the awesomely talented Ia Lucero in to redesign our site. The brief was not Read more »
Comic-Con Staying in San Diego
After months of deliberation and endless negotiations with hotels and city officials, Comic-Con International has come to the decision that it will remain in San Diego for the next five years. Anaheim and Los Angeles have been famously lobbying for Comic-Con to migrate to their cities, where there are bigger convention centers and less expensive hotel rates than in San Diego, but the fan-favorite city won out in the end. The primary sticking point was the fact that many downtown hotels near the convention center are known to hike their rates during Comic-Con, to gouge those convention-goers who want to stay within walking distance. Comic-Con has long tried to curb Read more »
Four Days To Save The Earth, well……sort of
It has now been four days since the announcement that Bob Harras has been appointed Editor-In-Chief at DC Comics, coming on the back of the news of DC’s major reorganisation and relocation to Burbank California and the closure of WildStorm. This is a position unoccupied since the departure of the great Jenette Kahn back in ’02, but not a title unfamiliar to Harras. Back in the 90′s, when Marvel was filing for bankruptcy, he was EiC at the House Of Ideas. This has pretty obviously generated mixed reaction (as all things comics tend to do). Obviously the anti-Didio camp is happy, yet people point out the troubles Marvel had. This Read more »
Kevin Bacon Made Out Of Bacon
Now bacon fanatics can try to get a unique bacon item for their bacon collection; a Kevin Bacon bust made out of bacon and bacon bits. The life sized sculpture of Kevin Bacon’s face was created to be auctioned off on Ebay for a charity cause. Another surprising and unorthodox art piece, although can art be unorthodox? Art is art it can be as traditional or unusual as ones creativity can create. Even though the sculpture is made out of food it will last a long time as it has been lacquered for preservation. Do take note that this means that the bacon sculpture is not edible despite how appealing Read more »
Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v. 2
It’s been another busy week in geek, and I’m back to shine a spotlight on the highlights and low points. From more zombie love to some serious time line angst, comic book chops to new planets, it’s a pretty eventful list. Let’s jump right in: WIN: Digital zombies The Walking Dead is going digital, and I am a-twitter with anticipation of whether or not this will mean new content that’s exclusively digital, in addition to the print comic. While after viewing the rather disappointing AMC motion comic version of the title’s first issue I’m not exactly anxious to see the comic go the motion route (the live action TV show Read more »
Isaiah Mustafa As Luke Cage In Power Man Movie? [Hilarious Video]
Isaiah Mustafa, the guy best known for his totally awesome Old Spice commercials, has said that he wants the part of Luke Cage in a Power Man movie and to prove how serious he is, he stopped by Marvel studios. During his visit Mustafa filmed his head on the body of what would be the Luke Cage character, while parodying his own Old Spice spots. Here’s the video: Read more »
iPhone as a Tool for the Visually Impaired
‘Tis no secret how I have always wanted an iPhone, but priorities dictate that I spend my money otherwise. (Yes, I can be responsible when I want to.) After reading this guy raving about his new iPhone though, I just can’t help but feel more excited about the product. It’s not like I need the features he describes, but the piece gave me a different perspective on how the iPhone can be more than just another gadget to toy with, but something that really adds value to one’s daily existence. According to Austin Seraphin the iPhone is “the greatest thing to happen to the blind for a very long time, Read more »
