Halloween’s around the corner, and holiday freaks enthusiasts are beside themselves with excitement. Am not one to celebrate holidays – in terms of decorating and wearing costumes and all that – but there is something to be said about Halloween decorations. Pumpkin carvings, in particular, have this thing about them. Whether they’re cute or kick ass, pumpkins for Halloween never fail to amuse. Read more »

The Dark Knight Rises
That’s the title of Christopher Nolan’s next film: the eagerly awaited third (and likely final) film in his blockbuster Batman series. I have to admit, I was hoping for something more original and sublime, like the leap from Batman Begins to The Dark Knight. Maybe another moniker for Batman, like The World’s Greatest Detective, although that’s not an applicable title for Nolan’s dark, noir-ish universe of organized crime. I guess the filmmakers had as hard a time figuring out what that might be as the rest of us did. I remember seeing some fan-made posters that suggested Gotham City as the next title. That doesn’t really work either, but I Read more »
Is the PSP2 a Phone?
The PlayStation Phone is real. It’s seemed like such an obvious thing, for so long, that tech-heads have been expecting it for years. After all, with the iPhone proving that smartphones can also be powerful gaming devices, why wouldn’t Sony engage in some corporate synergy between its Ericsson and PlayStation divisions? Thanks to Engadget, we now know that the dream of a PSP Phone is no dream at all — it’s real. The popular tech site got its hands on this leaked prototype PlayStation Phone, which could be both the long-awaited PSP2 and a smartphone in one device. Engadget reports that the prototype appears to be running Android 2.x, complete Read more »
Wishing for An Extra Pair of Hands? Get the Universal Gripper
Have you ever had those moments when you wished you had an extra pair of hands? I think everyone has had that experience at least once in his life. I know Wolowitz did! For the sake of those who have not seen that TBBT season 4 episode, I will not divulge details any further. Let me give you this quote as a teaser, though (not verbatim, based on memory): Nurse: Where is the rest of the robot? Wolowitz: I only made the arm/hand. Nurse: Oh, because that is all that you need, isn’t it? Now go watch that episode – you won’t regret it! This is not about TBBT, though. Read more »
Daft Punk Rocks “Tron: Legacy” Music Video [Unseen Footage]
Okay so it’s not the full length version of the Daft Punk song “Derezzed” which will make it’s full debut in the Tron: Legacy movie, but the short amount of footage shown in the video [below] offers up some never before seen footage and proves that Daft Punk was the perfect choice to add a bit of high-speed techno flair to the movie. Please pay special attention to Olivia Wilde in that awesome skin tight getup, damn thing makes me miss her on House M.D. even more! Here’s the video: Read more »
Bad Company
With all the fashionability of vampires post-Twilight and post-Vampire Diaries, I almost gave Boom’s ‘Dracula – In The Company of Monsters’ a miss. Until of course I noticed it was written by the fabled Kurt Busiek, who rarely disappoints. So after a mad-dash search through the shelves for the first two issues, I am now eagerly awaiting todays third issue. You know what is so good about this title? There’s a complete absence of fangs in the first issue, simply a good air of mystery and a good serving of moral dilemmas. Read more »
The History of Online Video
The biggest change in the history of the internet has to be the emergence of video and streaming platforms over the last years. We here at FG obviously are big fans and stream anything we can get our hands on. Whether it’s a Youtube video or Hulu, using tools such as the built-in iPlayer on the PS3 or even software such as Boxee. Can you remember life without online video? I know I struggle. Our colleagues over at The Blog Herald had a look at the history of online video in the alst 5 years and created an awesome infographic for TechSmith, the creators of the awesome Camtasia screencasting software. Will ‘The Sims’ Work on Consoles?
Anytime a game is ported from PC to console or vice versa, it’s always an exercise in showcasing the strengths and weaknesses of each platform. This week’s release of The Sims 3 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii — the first ever Sims game to receive a full-fledged port from PC to all three consoles — is no exception. (A Nintendo DS version is also being released, but it’s practically a different game altogether.) Maxis and EA Games have long tried to bring its juggernaut franchise to consoles, but always wound up altering the gameplay to suit what they perceived as console players’ need for focused tasks. These past console Read more »
My Kingdom for a RPG
I recently had a custom PC built. It’s a monster – and I mean, it breezes through any game on the market, even the newest releases, in highest graphics modes without a single problem. This is a dream PC. (Thank you, NewEgg, for making a machine that would’ve cost thousands cost far, far less by buying individual parts.) Now this is all very flashy and impressive with first person shooters, because FPS are pretty much what’s hot in new releases these days. So, the litmus test for a gaming machine would have to be how well it performs in FPS action. Read more »
Geek T-Shirts; Not Understood
I like unique t-shirts designed by individuals and not mass produced, especially geeky t-shirts. Threadless latest t-shirt designed by Adam Antium, A Guide to Nerds, is pretty ingenious. Each nerd has various stats, like; strength, intelligence, magic, knowledge and science just like on trading cards. This t-shirt hits the spot on why I don’t buy a lot of geeky t-shirts. You see, non-geek people would need a sort of guide to get geeks and their realms. While I am a geek in movies, books, computers, etc. most people around me are not. Lets face it, a lot of geek t-shirt we wear is to show of our geekiness but if Read more »
