That’s right – it’s that time again – time to reflect on the week’s happenings in glorious geekdom. Let’s jump right in. WIN: Zombie fans Last week I featured digital zombies, but this week I have to give a shout out to fellow zombie fans as we quiver and light up cigarettes in the afterglow of Resident Evil 3D – but more to the point, The Walking Dead panel at the New York Comic Con. The panel was so jam packed it took a good 45+ minutes to seat the attendees, and the reception everyone involved with the television show received proved just how much people adore a good zombie Read more »

Accessorizing, TRON Style
Disney believes that the look of Tron: Legacy is the future of fashion accessorizing, and is ready to make the future today. Hence, this collection of fine jewelry and couture inspired by the movie. Disney Consumer Products has partnered with high-end designers like Rousseau, Hayden-Harnett, Rotenier and TomTom to create what they call “luxury accessories for women,” many of which are based on the look of Tron‘s female lead, Quorra (played by actress Olivia Wilde). And when I say “high-end,” I mean it: prices start at $90 and go up to $2,600. Disney is also launching a store in November in Los Angeles that they’re calling the “Tron Pop-Up Shop.” All Read more »
Valve Is Making Defense of the Ancients 2
Familiar with Defense of the Ancients, the popular multiplayer mod for Warcraft III? It’s a unique take on an RTS (real-time strategy) where two teams of five players fight for a minimum of 40 minutes, trying to destroy the enemy’s base. Leveling up lets you stockpile equipment and money. It’s crazy popular on Battle.net, Blizzard’s online gaming service, where a variation called DOTA-Allstars has become top dog. DOTA-Allstars is maintained and updated by a man who goes by the handle “IceFrog,” and we’re now learning that Valve hired IceFrog back in 2009 to work on DOTA 2. Valve might seem like an odd fit to legitimize DOTA with a fully-funded, professionally-made Read more »
Can’t Sleep? Get One of these Geeky Beds
I have always had trouble sleeping at night, but the idea that my bed could be the culprit has never really entered my mind until now. After all, I have had my fair share of beds over the years, and the sleep problem is still there. With these geeky beds, though, I just might have found a cure. Or, maybe, I would not be able to sleep even more because of the sheer excitement of having one of them. At the very least, though, one is sure to have a really fun time just staring at the beds. If you’re into furniture, consider yourself warned – these beds look utterly Read more »
Got Your Suit On? It’s International Suit Up Day!
I am not entirely sure of wearing a suit (the “real” kind, not the sci-fi suits) is geeky or what, but I reckon today’s quirky holiday is still worth a mention. Yup, if you haven’t heard yet, today is International Suit Up Day. I actually found out about it on Facebook, as several friends are so into it. The chances are that you have at least one friend that has posted about it as well. So what’s up with this holiday? If you have been watching the series How I Met Your Mother, then you will be familiar with the character Barney Stinson, who “loves wearing suits more than he Read more »
Ask and Ye Shall Receive!
My recent column asking for the relaunch of Atlas Comics seems to have come true before I even put pen to paper (or is that finger to keyboard), as first revealed here. Arrden Entertainment has taken up the torch, and this weekend gone at the New York Comicon released copies of the Grim Ghost #0 and Phoenix #0, so my dream has come true! Atlas lives once more. Meanwhile, citing different visions of direction for the Atlas Comics relaunch, JM DeMatteis has stepped down as Editor-In-Chief at Arrden. This has to be one of the most good-natured resignations I have seen for a while; Read more »
A 3rd-Party Wiimote I’d Actually Buy
What happens when you combine a video game controller with LEGO? A holy blessed geekgasm, that’s what. LEGO has teamed up with Nintendo to offer a new Wiimote that hardcore gamers are going to go bonkers over. Oh, and kids will dig it, too. It’s the “LEGO Play and Build Remote for Nintendo Wii,” and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a Wiimote with LEGO studs and cylinders built in, so you can accessorize it all you want with LEGO bricks and other elements. It comes with 31 bricks, but you can add your own, too. It’s not a Motion Plus remote, but it’s compatible with the add-on doohickey that Read more »
Crappy Power Infrastructure In U.S. May Be Protecting Us From Terrorist Attacks
If you’re worried that a terrorist cell may at some time take down our electrical systems, in essence making our country nothing more than a medieval state, you probably don’t need to worry too much. A group of physicist have recently suggested that a full take down of our systems is almost impossible due to there “patchwork” design. Last year a paper was published in which it was stated, in theory, that by taking down a small remote power station the U.S. would lose the ability to operate. The new research states that an entire power node would have to be taken out for any damage to truly be done. Read more »
Living La Vida Geeka: NYCC ’10
I’ve been wracking my brain for three days to try to think of a coherent way to express the geek bliss that is a comic convention, and in this case, the New York Comic Con. Ever since my return home on Sunday I’ve been trying to think of an angle for a piece here at ForeverGeek, because there’s so much material to cover it’s almost impossible to put into words what a smorgasbord of delights the NYCC really is. I knew going into it that the most exciting day of the con was going to be, at least for me, Sunday – and those familiar with both the NYCC and Read more »
Eric Stoltz As Marty McFly? The Footage Proves It Would Have Sucked
If you’re a big fan of the Back to the Future franchise you’ll probably thank your lucky stars that the original actor cast as Marty McFly (Eric Stoltz), was fired from the flick when director Robert Zemeckis and producer Steve Spielberg realized it wasn’t working out. The clip below shows several scenes that were actually shot with Eric Stolz, these and other scenes will be featured on the movie series upcoming 25th anniversary Blu-Rays. Stoltz lasted just 5 weeks on the set before being replaced by Michael J. Fox. Notice in the scenes featuring Eric that the entire movie comes off as some sort of dramatic sci-fi flick instead of Read more »
