Incredible Calvin & Hobbes Fan Art

Incredible Calvin & Hobbes Fan Art

My love for Calvin & Hobbes knows no bounds. So imagine my fanboy giddiness when I discovered that a blog called Super Punch has recently run a contest for professional-quality fan art of the beloved comic strip. Fans were asked to send in their takes on Calvin & Hobbes — either in strip format, or standard artwork — and three winners were selected. It just so happens that all three took the form of strips, and all three, in my estimation, are good enough to substitute for the real thing (which is very high praise), managing to tap into the same childhood pathos that Bill Watterson so brilliantly channeled in Read more »

Moleskine iPad/iPhone Hybrids

Moleskine iPad/iPhone Hybrids

As much as I am a gadget geek I still love analog things like pens and notebooks. I have several brands of notebooks including a couple of Moleskine’s and I even have two fountain pens. It doesn’t get more old skool than that. If you are like me and like both digital and analog then you should seriously consider the new Moleskine covers for the iPhone and the iPad. Read more »

Secret Infinity Chaos War? We’ve been here before.

Secret Infinity Chaos War? We’ve been here before.

This week I happened to read the reviews before the comics themselves, especially the Twitter based #ramarev reviews, where I happened upon this following comment: – “The set up of Chaos War reads just like the start of Crisis on Infinite Earths from the 80s! Am I right? #RamaRev“ Well, I had been looking forward to the Chaos War since I first heard of it. Of course I did, I love these huge team-ups and it’s about time that one of these cosmic level threats actually hit Earth. With an introduction like that as provided by @cavalock, I was even more excited. I mean, an intro like the Perez/Wolfman classic? Read more »

Google Doodle Says Happy 70th Birthday to John Lennon

Google Doodle Says Happy 70th Birthday to John Lennon

Who doesn’t look forward to those Google Doodles? Every time they come up with something new, we all can’t help but notice the Doodle. Today, Google pays tribute to the great John Lennon, who has influenced many a life – both while he was alive and now that he’s gone. I’ve never been that big a John Lennon fan, but I have to say that I have spent many a working day tripping to The Beatles. Indeed, upon seeing the Google Doodle today, I have been listening non-stop to The Beatles (as opposed to my daily music list). Read more »

The LEGO Killing Joke

The LEGO Killing Joke

A clever LEGO filmmaker threw some Minifigs together and put lens and voice to the iconic final Joker scene from the Batman graphic novel The Killing Joke, Allan Moore and Brian Bolland’s defining work on the Joker character. I wouldn’t have thought that a Minifig could emote this much, but I guess good voice work and a few nifty camera angles can make up for actors that are literally plastic. The results are truly amazing. Prepare to be creeped out, in all the right ways: Read more »

If Pink Is Your Color…

If Pink Is Your Color…

…why not grab some pink gadgets this month and join a worthy cause? I know I keep saying that I do not like the color pink, but for some reason, I keep running across this color. If you do not know yet, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it is usually commemorated with the color pink. Even gadget manufacturers go out of their way to further the cause (of course, we know that money is still somehow involved in all this), and come up with special edition pink versions of their products. I wouldn’t recommend going as far as buying a pink laptop if you are not really into Read more »

The Force Unleashed II Trailer Talks About Starkillers Fate [Star Wars Game]

The Force Unleashed II Trailer Talks About Starkillers Fate [Star Wars Game]

The Force Unleashed Star Wars game likes to pick on poor little Starkiller and in part two of the saga it’s no different, this guy just can’t catch a break. If you’re just catching up on your Star Wars game playing, Starkiller believes he’s a clone and the game begins when he’s being held captive in Kamino, where Darth Vader has signed the papers for his execution, he escapes before that can happen and tries to put his life back into order and find his game crush Juno Eclipse. In the meantime Darth Vader hired Boba Fett to find Juno in an attempt to recapture Starkiller. Nothing like a new Read more »

Panasonic Is Now a Console Maker (Again)

Panasonic Is Now a Console Maker (Again)

Anybody remember the 3DO? It was a game console that boasted more advanced features than any of its competitors — for 1993, anyway. It made a big splash when it first launched, even being named “Product of the Year” by Time Magazine, but lasted only three years. Panasonic, the company that manufactured the 3DO, is now officially tossing its hat back into the console gaming ring, but this time they’re attempting to launch a handheld device with a very specific purpose: playing MMOs on-the-go. It’s called the Jungle, and it’s a clamshell-designed piece of hardware made to let you leave the mancave and go out in the sunlight — but Read more »

Star Wars Construction Paper Music Video, A Tatooine Tribute

Star Wars Construction Paper Music Video, A Tatooine Tribute

Jeremy Messersmith created a song that pays tribute to the Star Wars planet of Tatooine and now Eric Power, the genius behind various construction paper Star Wars shots has made a video to go along with the song. Power’s uses the best parts of the original Star Wars trilogy to reconstruct the video for the song and his old school paper character designs gives the song a cool feel all it’s own. Here’s the video: Read more »

The Ultimate Social Network for Geeks

The Ultimate Social Network for Geeks

Got GetGlue? If not, you should. If there’s one thing we geeks love to do, it’s talk about the pop culture stuff that we love and hate. GetGlue makes this super easy, making it the perfect social network for geeks. GetGlue is like Foursquare or Gowalla for, well… stuff. Instead of checking in at locations and events, GetGlue lets you check in when you’re watching a TV show or movie, listening to music, playing a video game, reading a book, and more (without those pesky security concerns, such as when you tell the world you’re not at home, making your house an easy target for burglars). Its secondary purpose is to Read more »
