Video gamers are usually among the biggest beneficiaries of Black Friday. Every year, the post-Thanksgiving gamer is able to pick up hot new titles and terrific hardware bundles — as long as you’re willing to get up at ungodly hours and wait in the cold in a parking lot. But it’s a small price to pay!
Here’s a guide to the best deals available this year. Be aware that some of these sales are “door busters,” which means they’re available in limited quantities in stores, and will be subject to first-come, first-serve.
If you’re one of the two gamers left on the planet who don’t own a Nintendo Wii, Best Buy has the best offer: an excellent bundle of Wii console, one Remote with Motion Plus built in, one Nunchuck, Wii Sports, and Wii Sports Resort for $169.99. It’s available in black or white. Several other retailers are offering the same bundle but for more money, so be careful where you shop. If you’re feeling the urge to pop-and-lock, GameStop has the same bundle with Just Dance also included for $199.99.
Doesn’t look like anyone is offering a particularly special deal for PlayStation 3, as every retailer seems to be selling the “PS3 Holiday Bundle” for the same price: $299.99. Surprisingly, almost no one is even advertising the PlayStation Move, much less offering it at a discounted price.
The same goes for Xbox 360; apparently, Microsoft has a stranglehold on pricing for their hardware. The 360 is available in both 4GB and 250GB configurations, for $199.99 and $299.99. As for Kinect, if you can manage to find the motion-sensing peripheral on Black Friday, you won’t find it anywhere for less than $149.99.
As for games, most major retailers are offering a number of past classics at great prices that drop as low as $9.99. Best Buy has Fallout 3 for $9.99, for example, and Kmart has Mass Effect 2 for the same price.
