Imperative, Agents NOW

Imperative, Agents NOW

Well, I was half right, we could see the end of the The Thanos Imperative coming, or at least the defeat of Lord Mar-Vell and the Many-Angled Ones. Still, it was not disappointing in the slightest, I don’t want to offer any spoilers, but Thanos is up there in the uber-villain stakes again. My appetite is highly whetted for the sequel – The Thanos Imperative Devastation, as there are so many plotlines that have been left hanging during this event, and others that may well spiral out of it. How long will it be before Medusa is actually Queen of the universe, as her empire ‘assists’ the rebuilding effort? And Read more »

When Disney and Star Wars Collide

When Disney and Star Wars Collide

Every little girl dreams of becoming a Disney princess, or so they say. I am pretty sure, though, that the princesses they are talking about aren’t anything like these princesses that I am about to share with you. You have to admit, most of the Disney princesses can kick butt. Not only are they beautiful, they also have this oomph factor, character-wise. Seriously, though, these girls are something else. Take a look for yourself. Read more »

Music Games Need a Revolution

Music Games Need a Revolution

News broke today that Harmonix — the creator of Rock Band — is being sold by its owner, Viacom. No buyer yet is lined up, but the bottom line is that Viacom wants to offload the company because it’s losing money. For years now, the music game subgenre has been in decline, with sales numbers receding faster than Donald Trump’s hairline. Enthusiasts still adore the games and eagerly await new releases, but music games seem to have over-saturated store shelves to the point that casual gamers no longer see the value in buying new games and controllers, when they’re usually little more than variants on the same old theme. Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v. 6

Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v. 6

Onward we rush to the closure of another week in geek, this time featuring more than a healthy dose of news and happenings related to comics-to-movies adaptations. Let’s dive right in, before the ever-fluctuating rumors change course and render this entire post a fail. FAIL: Sub-mariner Fanboys It’s a shame I have to call fail the fans of the mostly lovable Marvel hero Namor the Sub-Mariner this week, but there aren’t many other ways to describe the faux buzz surrounding his reported inclusion in the upcoming Captain America movie. Despite being an Invader – and despite the Invaders being included in the film – Namor will not be making an Read more »

Bubblegum Crisis Is Going Live Action, Does Anyone Remember It?

Bubblegum Crisis Is Going Live Action, Does Anyone Remember It?

Wow, that was a title I never thought I would type. For some reason, someone has decided that the ’90s anime Bubblehum Crisis should be made into a movie. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool that the animated series was one of the first anime shows to make it to the United States and it did receive some attention, but honestly what else was there to compare it to at that time. Heck the show couldn’t even stand the test of time in many viewers minds. Regardless, the live action version of the anime series will begin shooting in May and is being directed Anthony LaMolinara the guy who did Read more »

iPhone 4 Diamond Rose is the World’s Most Expensive Phone

Looking for the perfect gift this Christmas? Look no further – whoever receives this iPhone from you will be eternally in your debt. Stuart Hughes, renowned British jeweler, has just come up with an iPhone that will definitely stand out from the rest of the iPhones that you see yuppies, geeks, and your mom carrying around. One look at that baby, and you’ll know that something is definitely NOT normal about it! Read more »

Assassin’s Creed Goes Multimedia

Assassin’s Creed Goes Multimedia

This week saw the release of two side projects to the Assassin’s Creed universe — one a monthly comic book, the other what appears to be a motion comic or possibly even an animated film or series. Of course, the game Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is mere days away from hitting store shelves, so the time is ripe for Ubisoft to expand its bestselling empire. Assassin’s Creed: The Fall is a comic book from Wildstorm, an arm of DC Comics. This 3-issue miniseries follows the story of a Russian Assassin named Nikolai Orelov. Unlike Altair and Ezio Auditore, Nikolai is not an ancestor of Desmond Miles. Instead, he’s the ancestor of Read more »

Millennium Falcon Blueprints

Millennium Falcon Blueprints

How cool is this? Wired has posted the blueprints for Han Solo’s signature ship, as first published in 1987′s Star Wars: The Role-Playing Game, by the now-defunct West End Books. The book is long out-of-print, but this is one of its finest schematics. The schematic is full of references to stuff mentioned in the Original Trilogy, from stuff like the holographic game that R2D2 and Chewbacca play to the Strobe/C-Beam Lamps (aka, the “Headlights”) at the front of the ship. If you’ve ever wanted to know how the Millennium Falcon is laid out, and what kinds of systems it has — including the manufacturer’s brand names — then you’ve got Read more »

Darth Vader Wanders Around Japanese Cell Phone Commercial [WTF]

Darth Vader Wanders Around Japanese Cell Phone Commercial [WTF]

I really liked a while back when Darth Vader appeared in a World Cup commercial to promote a Netbook, but then more random Star Wars commercials started to surface to the point where Japanese cell phone company NTT Docomo has Vader doing nothing more than walking around the entire time while occasionally looking at the sky. The only thing that makes sense is that the commercial spot is promoting the Samsung Galaxy S and since Darth Vader is from a galaxy far far away, promoting the phone’s namesake sort of makes sense? Here’s the video for your enjoyment? Read more »

Cool Crossovers

Cool Crossovers

Well, now we have seen the start of the long-awaited (by me at least) Justice League Of America/The Ninety Nine, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. These teams ups are better designed as mini-series rather than one off specials, as the many crossovers of the Nineties will remind us. It allows space to really establish each character for the reader, especially if that reader is new to the characters. Let’s be honest, this is a shameless marketing ploy on the side of both companies and I thoroughly approve. DC wants and in on Teshkeel’s domestic market, and Teshkeel wants to use the JLA’s fame to draw attention Read more »
