Mona Lisa at Her Greasiest

Mona Lisa at Her Greasiest

Very quickly – name three things you can do with a burger. (Think of a big fat juicy burger as you rattle off those uses.) Here are my answers: Eat. Wolf down. Savor slowly. If you ask me, there is no other use for a burger than to fill up an empty stomach.  No matter how you do it, the fun part is in the EATING.  This guy disagrees with me, though.  He found a new – and probably healthier – use for burgers: painting material. Black Ops Is Here: So What’s Next?

Black Ops Is Here: So What’s Next?

It’s not exactly breaking news that Call of Duty: Black Ops is already a mega-hit. Or that publisher Activision considers the CoD franchise the crowning jewel in its empire. So while CoD founding studio Infinity Ward is still recouping from all of that drama a while back where the company’s two founders were ousted by Activision (Black Ops comes from Treyarch, the studio behind all of the odd-numbered series entries), you can bet your butt that future iterations of the series are already well under way. But the obvious question becomes: where does Call of Duty go from here? The series has bounced between the World Wars of the early Read more »

Yoshi: Tastes Like Chicken

Yoshi: Tastes Like Chicken

For the upcoming show, “Pixel Pushers: An Exploration of 8‐Bit Digital Media”, curated by Giant Robot, artist Jude Buffum came with the idea to create pixel illustrations inspired by meat diagrams. These illustrations are not just any meat diagram, they are diagrams of 8-bit video game characters like our beloved Yoshi and the always present Koopa amongst others. Imagine you where to eat these video games animals; what would the meat parts be names, how to cook them best and what side dish and drink goes well with it. This is a real creative piece, it does take some fantasy to come up with something so unique and also the Read more »

5 New Designs for the Harry Potter Books

5 New Designs for the Harry Potter Books

Harry Potter has inspired fandom of all kinds. In a few weeks, the end of the movie series begins with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. To commemorate this moment in time, I’ve pulled together five collections of entirely new designs for the seven book covers. Here’s the twist: one of them is real! The other four are all made by talented, artistic fans. But one of these redesigns is actually in use right now by publisher Bloomsbury in the U.K., where all seven books have been re-released. The idea is to “appeal to the next generation of readers who did not grow up with Harry Potter.” Can Read more »

Lego Mindstorm Factory 2.0 Opens, Automates Lego Building Process

Lego Mindstorm Factory 2.0 Opens, Automates Lego Building Process

The Lego Mindstorms Factory 2.0 is the best example of Lego automation I’ve seen to date. Taking an incredible 4.5 months to build, the factory allows you to choose a Lego design and then wait for it to be automatically built. The factory required designers to spend 150 hours building Lego creations and then another 100 hours programming their system to understand what pieces to grab based on the users chosen design, including color preferences. With over 25,000 bricks and 95 brick types, with 1520 bricks in stock, the system is one of the most complex of it’s kind to date and is capable of making models as large as Read more »

When Superheroes Meet Picasso

When Superheroes Meet Picasso

As powerful as our superheroes are, there are certain things that bring them down. Everyone knows what Kryptonite does to Superman. Wonder Woman became helpless when a guy bound her bracelets together. (That is sure to raise some eyebrows – mine included.) Daredevil gets thrown off by noise. What happens to these superheroes when someone paints them drawing upon Senor Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (Picasso to most of us) for inspiration? Spider-Man ‘Turn Off The Dark’ Might Be Most Poorly Planned Broadway Musical Of All Time

Spider-Man ‘Turn Off The Dark’ Might Be Most Poorly Planned Broadway Musical Of All Time

When I first heard that U2′s Bono and Edge would be creating a Spider-Man Broadway musical I thought it was the most fantastically bad idea I’ve ever heard. Then I saw a song being performed from the show on TV and I then KNEW it was the worse idea in the history of bad Broadway ideas. Now we’ve learned that the issue wasn’t whether or not it would be good, but when the $60 million dollar production would actually make it’s debut after numerous delays. Apparently the show is so far behind it’s been delayed by another 3 weeks, missing the big Thanksgiving weekend box office. Here’s what the NY Read more »

Will Wright Addresses TV Show Confusion

Will Wright Addresses TV Show Confusion

As I wrote back in early October, legendary game maker Will Wright — of SimCity, The Sims, and Spore fame — has left behind the world of gaming to venture into television. But he hasn’t abandoned his “sandbox tools” ways. Wright’s genre-busting games are known for giving gamers the tools to play the kind of game they want, any way they want. Non-linear and totally open-worlded, SimCity, The Sims, and Spore may come with certain tiered objectives, but ultimately you can do whatever you want within these unique “sandboxes.” He’s bringing that same philosophy — providing creative people with unique sets of tools and seeing what they come up with Read more »

Map of Europe in LEGO

Map of Europe in LEGO

There is no doubt that everyone at ForeverGeek has this thing about LEGO – who doesn’t, anyway? Just take a quick look at the numerous LEGO posts that we have, and you’ll know what I mean. The chances are that you are also into LEGO, and just in case you have this thing for maps as well, here is the perfect obra maestra for you to feast your eyes on this Monday morning: Europe rendered solely using LEGO bricks. The Week in Game Vids

The Week in Game Vids

This week’s edition of videos from the world of gaming features a huge heap of trailers, featurettes, and even some opening cinematics, from a whole slew of triple-A titles like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Epic Mickey, Dead Space 2, Goldeneye, and lots more! Let’s start off with a PvP trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, which has tons of epic vistas, blasters, and lightsabers. Here’s a look at the Glee edition of Karaoke Revolution. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. The first trailer for that Unreal engine-empowered game for iPhone & iPad that there’s a lot of buzz about, Infinity Blade. This is the Read more »
