If Microsoft’s hype machine is to be believed, the future has arrived, and we are now living in science fiction. If you’re still on the fence about Kinect — and who would blame you? it is, after all, a $150 investment — here’s some food for thought and some eye candy to help you make your decision. Here’s what the pundits say about the Kinect hardware: Wired says… “It’s clear Microsoft will attract new users based solely on the “wow” factor of controlling your television holding absolutely nothing in your hands. For that reason, Kinect is undeniably cool… [But] what exactly is wrong with buttons?” The New York Times says… Read more »

Radiation Could Delay Human Mars Landing, Sun Cycles To Blame
The United States and China would really like to land human beings on Mars, unfortunately plans to begin that flight in 2025 and land in 2035 might be delayed due to an increased chance of radiation poisoning. The issue is that during space travel Astronauts in deep space are affected by varying levels of Sun radiation. That radiation is based on predictable levels which are expected to be higher than normal from 2020 through 2040. Long time exposure to those rays in effect could cause radiation poisoning leading to death. Unless NASA can develop better radiation shields, the flares could cause problems while in flight and during Mars exploration. Read more »
Downe In The Silence
A couple of first issues are on offer this week. Joe Casey presents a one-off special from Image called Officer Downe, while IDW opens another series in the Silent Hill franchise – Past Life. I don’t really know the franchise well, but the latter is definitely my pick for the week. While Officer Downe is almost nostalgic both in it’s art style and context, bringing to mind the rich history of 2000AD strips, this is not your comic for kids. It lacks a certain innocence that 2000AD possessed, and I only hope that responsible comic shop managers keep their eye on who buys it, as it fails to carry a Read more »

There sure are a lot of creative geeks out there. Here are some of the geek world’s pumpkins that were carved this year, for Halloween 2010. Multi-touch iPhone Table: Your Larger than Life iPhone
Those of you who can’t part with their beloved iPhones for a single second, what do you say to owning an iPhone on steroids? All sorts of images may be flashing in your head right now, but you might be a little off the mark. I am not talking about processing power or better signal reception. I am talking about an upsizing of the iPhone – literally! Read more »
‘Shadow Complex’ Dev Making iPhone/iPad Game
Remember that awesome Xbox Live Arcade game from last summer called Shadow Complex? It was a fantastic shooter that all but redefined the concept of side-scrolling. I was fortunate enough to be given an early preview of the game at Comic-Con last year, and then the good folks at Chair Entertainment, who built the game, even comped me with a review code to download the game. Sadly, the blog I was writing for went under shortly thereafter, and I never got to write my review of Shadow Complex. But it would have been glowing, I tell you. It was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I had all year Read more »
Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v. 5
Zombies on TV. Drunk tweeting. Parakeets eating diarrhea. Filthy rich hackers. What do these things have in common? Why, it’s another installment of wins and fails this week in geek, that’s what! WIN: Zombies Again. After the bazillionth week trending on Surchur and Google Trends, zombies are still going strong. Of course, this is largely due to the overwhelming success of The Walking Dead, which premiered on Halloween night. The comic-to-TV adaptation drew in the most viewers ever for a premier on its channel, AMC, with over a cool 5 million tuning in on the night and more than 3 million following up the day it was rerun. Bruce Campbell Marries Some Zombies [Video]
I reported last week that Bruce Campbell was officiating the wedding of two lucky fans at ZomBCon and now that wedding has happened! Campbell officiated in front of a large crowd while wearing a very underworld looking red suit. The video shown below comes from Geekscape and is actually of the renewal ceremony which allowed anyone who was already married to renew their vows during the very non-traditional ceremony. Not only can Bruce Campbell rock the very red suit, but he’s one hell of a wedding officiator who kept things like in a fun zombie type of way. Would you let Bruce Campbell officiate over your undead wedding ceremony? Read more »
Meet David Saltzberg: The Real Physicist Behind TBBT
For a while there, The Big Bang Theory seemed to lose just a little bit of its extraordinary humor. As much as I love the TV series, I thought that Season 3 was not as funny as the first two. Then came Season 4. I think many of you will agree that it is the funniest of all the four seasons. In any case, we all know who the four geeks are. We all know about their girlfriends, or “girl/friend” in Sheldon’s case. But, how many of us know about the guys behind the scientific quips in the show? While I am sure that a good number of you would Read more »

This is more eye candy than you know what to do with. Eighty-four pics, presented in glorious high-resolution (the very highest available), here’s a complete compendium of every film still, production artwork, and promotional poster in existence for Tron Legacy. We’re just weeks away now from the geek event of the year. The official geek sponsor of 2010. The most geekalicious production of… Yeah, I’m done. Enjoy. Read more »
