Turf

Turf

I’m beginning to think I have been wrong about the plethora of vampire titles out there. (Except of course the Vampire Diaries, but don’t get me started on that). Lurking amidst the Image comics on the stand I found Turf, specifically the third issue of a five issue series from Image. A seemingly Noir gangster tale, with vampires and an alien thrown in. Written by Jonathan Ross and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards, the art was not spectacular on the first flick through, vaguely Mignola-esque in its form, which is not what I really appreciate in my comics. I much prefer the clean lines of say Perez or Jiminez, however Read more »

Jar Jar Binks Gets Some Lego Star Wars Trilogy Film Love

Jar Jar Binks Gets Some Lego Star Wars Trilogy Film Love

I love the Lego Star Wars Trilogy animated film by M2Film, but I can’t wrap my head around why they chose to have Jar Jar Binks in just about every scene! I also don’t understand (maybe I just missed something) as to why he appears to be vacuuming the entire time, regardless of whether or not he’s inside, in the middle of the dessert, etc. If you watch the last seen he shoots Lego’s out of his vacuum but I couldn’t spot him vacuuming any up in the film. Also, what the Lego’s turn into is just as scary as Jar Jar Binks appearing in the film at all. Parts Read more »

Geeky Christmas Tree Ornaments

Geeky Christmas Tree Ornaments

Where I come from, the Christmas season starts when we hit the “-ber months”. That means at the stroke of midnight, on September 1, you will hear radio stations playing Christmas songs. Unbelievable, maybe, but true! I don’t know if you decorate for Christmas – I don’t. If I were to put up my own tree, though, I already know what ornaments I would be using. For those of you who are yet to put up their trees or are in the process of doing so, here is a bunch of tree ornaments that you just might want to grab. Read more »

Text, Glorious Text

Text, Glorious Text

Recent demonstration of a typewriter hacked to play Zork made me nostalgic for the golden age of MUDs, text-based roleplaying games that were, and in my opinion still are, king in the world of actual roleplaying – in line after pen and paper, of course. MUDs (or any of the other MU* designations) were in essence MMORPGs in the days before graphic integration. They were interactive stories, playable solo or in a group with elements that were conducive to actual roleplay. In a good MUD story was the focal point, with social interaction spinning off plot with a life of its own. Read more »

Cancel Your Plans: Bejeweled 3 Is Coming

Cancel Your Plans: Bejeweled 3 Is Coming

Available for every platform known to man (there’s even a compact version played by millions on Facebook), Bejeweled 2 was originally released in 2004 but remains one of the most addictive and most-played puzzle games of all time. A new copy of the game is sold every 4.3 seconds! Six years is a long time to wait for a sequel — particularly for a puzzle game, which take far less time to create than their FPS, RPG, and racing big brothers — but PopCap Games has finally delivered. Bejeweled 3 is coming on December 7th, 2010. At first it will be available only for PC and Mac, but other platforms Read more »

It Would Have Been Cooler As A Van

It Would Have Been Cooler As A Van

Brandon Ortwein came with the creative idea of illustrating famous movie and cartoon cars as vans. Think of the Mach5, Optimus Prime or The Ghostbusters ECO. Logically “The Mystery Machine” is not listed as it has always been cool being originally a van. Most of the converted cars are indeed cooler as a van, but the “DeLorean” and the “Batmobile” are definitely better in their original form. Notoriously missing is Fred Flinstone’s stone age car, that would be something as a van. Read more »

Art on a Shoestring? Not Quite, but Stunning Nonetheless

Art on a Shoestring? Not Quite, but Stunning Nonetheless

Take a look at that artwork. Tell me what you see. You’ll probably make some remarks about the colors, the sunflower, and the emotions that the scene brings out in you. You might even say it is just another painting by a talented artist. Now take another look – a much closer look. Pay attention to the squiggles (for lack of a better word). Believe it or not, this artwork is made from shoelaces, or shoestrings, if you will. Read more »

Review: ‘Spartacus Blood & Sand’ Season One Blu-ray

Review: ‘Spartacus Blood & Sand’ Season One Blu-ray

The historic, real-life tale of Spartacus is not new to Hollywood. But neither history nor Hollywood have ever seen anything quite like Starz’ Spartacus: Blood & Sand. It is something wholly new, using bits of other well-known formulas in creative and clever new ways that adds up to something far greater than the sum of its parts. At times stubbornly beholden to history, and at others wildly veering from it, Spartacus nonetheless introduces us to the familiar slave who eventually rose to lead an incredible rebellion against the Roman Empire. Today Microsoft has unveiled a major overhaul to the Xbox Dashboard which comes complete with a ton of new features and enhancements. Comic-Con Ticket Sales Crash Computer Systems, Ticket Buying Halted

Comic-Con Ticket Sales Crash Computer Systems, Ticket Buying Halted

Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego may not arrive until July 21st but that didn’t stop ticket buyers today from flooding the company with so many requests for tickets that went on sale that they crashed the company’s ticketing system. Tickets went on sale Monday morning, however the ticketing system soon crashed and resulted in the following message on the Comic-Con website: “Only a handful of badges were actually sold today.” Ticket sales were halted indefinitely after the system went down,  a new registration will need to be announced. The company’s website said of the ticket closing: “We are really sorry for the problems with registration today,” adding,   “We do Read more »
