As powerful as our superheroes are, there are certain things that bring them down. Everyone knows what Kryptonite does to Superman. Wonder Woman became helpless when a guy bound her bracelets together. (That is sure to raise some eyebrows – mine included.) Daredevil gets thrown off by noise.
What happens to these superheroes when someone paints them drawing upon Senor Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (Picasso to most of us) for inspiration?
Artist Mike Esparza thought it would be fun to see what our superheroes would have looked like if the renowned Spanish painter had painted them himself. While the images may not be your run-of-the-mill characters, they certainly will catch your eye. I will not dare analyze the style – I know when to leave well enough alone – but here, take a look at some of the images.
Naturally, the rendition of Iron Man is my favorite of the lot, even if his fingers make me think of having fat little sausages for breakfast. Superman is a bit too eerie for me, with his face looking like someone with Kryptonite rearranged it.

Gotta agree – Iron Man is the best, hands-down. I think it’s the texture of the Iron Man suit along with the already angular design, which is exaggerated with this abstract style. That, and Iron Man doesn’t have as much of a face compared to the rest of the heroes, so the artist does a good job of giving him a unique look.
