History of Gaming

History of Gaming

You know what is cooler than a infographic about the history of gaming? A video about the history of gaming. You see someone playing these games, starting with an Oscilloscope from 1958, and I thought I had a hard time finding a NES console in good working condition. The ‘History of Gaming’ video was made by “Game Design” students from Munich. It is a very simple video but pretty geek and retro considering they actually use working consoles, even the TV gets updated when updating the console. You can see the following games in the video: Tennis for Two, Oscilloscope, 1958 Pacman, Arcade, 1980 Donkey Kong, NES, 1986 Sonic the Read more »

Forget 3D – Add SMELL To Your Games

Forget 3D – Add SMELL To Your Games

By Christmas of this year, you’ll be able to lay down $70 for the ability to smell the action in your favorite game. Or movie. Imagine tearing around a curve in Gran Turismo 5 and smelling the strong odor of burning rubber. Or you pop Inception in the Blu-ray and the movie opens on Leonardo DiCaprio washing up on the shore, barely conscious. As the scene begins, you catch a whiff of salty sea air. It sounds gimmicky at first, but I think once experienced — if it works as advertised — it could be pretty cool. ScentScape is finally bringing the concept of smell-o-vision to the world via a Read more »

Symphony of Science: Learning Science Via Music

Symphony of Science: Learning Science Via Music

Everything in the universe is intertwined – from science to literature to music. For those of us with a lot of imagination and a dash of inspiration, it is a simple matter to combine different elements together to come up with something quite unique. This is exactly what John Boswell and company have done. With their project Symphony of Science, they aim to share scientific knowledge and philosophy using music. It’s simple but it’s brilliant! Now who would have thought that you would see and hear Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan (among others) give mini lectures through song? Don’t believe it’s possible? Watch the video for yourself. There are many Read more »

Supergirl Grows Up, Slain By Foursquare?

Supergirl Grows Up, Slain By Foursquare?

Now I read Supergirl religiously every month. I’m one of the older school of fans that hold the character in high regard after the original Earth One version died in the Crisis Of Infinite Earths. Considering that was my introduction to DC, she maybe possesses a greater appeal to me that she deserves. I lapped up the brilliant struggles of Linda Danvers as she struggled to live up to such a demanding legacy. (Of course it was brilliant, have you ever known Peter David to let us down?) I picked up every story that had a Supergirl in it, even the Cir-El version. I applauded the return of a real Kara Read more »

Review: uDraw Game Tablet

Review: uDraw Game Tablet

I feel funny calling this a game review, because a game this is not. But it does run on a standard Wii game console. uDraw Studio, the software that comes packaged with THQ’s uDraw Game Tablet, is essentially an artist’s studio and palette, providing all of the tools needed to create your masterpiece. So is it possible to create something that could actually be called art? With a lot of patience and practice, yeah, I think so. The uDraw tablet itself might seem at first pass to be a glorified steering wheel that you pop your Wii remote down into and then shake around to manipulate various games. It’s true Read more »

Rubik’s Cube for Dummies: How to Solve Rubik’s Cube in 20 Moves

Rubik’s Cube for Dummies: How to Solve Rubik’s Cube in 20 Moves

Who among you have problems solving Rubik’s Cube? Remember my post last year about some guys who determined God’s Number – 20? Well, saying that the minimum number of moves to solve the puzzle is 20 is one thing. Actually solving the puzzle in 20 moves is another thing. If you cannot figure out those 20 moves on your own, do not fret. Someone else has done the hard task for you and created an infographic that will show you – step by step – how to solve Rubik’s Cube in 20 moves. No more, no less. Just to make things more fun, they threw in a handful of other Read more »

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Villains Announced

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Villains Announced

Considering what a huge topic of conversation the title of Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film was (and still is!), ForeverGeek had to get this out to you immediately. Warner Bros. has just sent out a press release naming the two villains that will face off against Christian Bale’s Batman in The Dark Knight Rises — and the actors who will portray them. It’s long been rumored that Tom Hardy — who co-starred in Nolan’s Inception — was already onboard to play one of the villains, but until now we’ve had no idea which villain that would be. The character in question is, surprisingly, Bane. The hulking, doped-up muscleman from the Read more »

Nintendo 3DS: $249, March 27th

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo was very eager at a special media event today to convince consumers that the 3DS handheld gaming system is more than a one trick pony. “3D gaming without the glasses” is certainly the headline talking point, but there’s a lot more under the hood of this thing than just the fancy screen. First up, the big news: The Nintendo 3DS drops on March 27th in North America, for a lower-than-expected price of $249.99. It arrives a couple days early in Europe, on the 25th, for £229 in the U.K. and €249 everywhere else. More than 30 titles are expected between the launch date and E3 in June, and the Read more »

The Infinite Vacation

The Infinite Vacation

You know when you discover one of those little science-fiction gems? That was my experience last week with picking up a copy of the new treat from Shadowline, the Infinite Vacation. I fondly remember the halcyon days of DC Helix, with the excellent titles of Vermillion and Cyberella. Unfortunately the only survivor of the short-lived imprint was the excellent Transmetropolitan. (If there’s any chance of re-visiting those other titles DC….. hint hint.) Even with the masterful direction of the Marvel Cosmic titles under the hands of Dan Abnett, or the thoroughly enjoyable R.E.B.E.L.S over at DC, I hadn’t realised the science-fiction shaped void in my heart. There is a limit Read more »
