I don’t know about you, but I need a fantasy fix. I haven’t even had the time to read latest Wheel of Time book! Yeah, I am a slacker. But anyway, here is something that took care of my yearning for some fantasy. It’s not text, but these photos are seriously going to take your breath away.
Horns are a staple in fantasy stories, and I am sure fantasy fans have their very own ideas as to how horns in stories look. 1 Well, stop imagining and take a look at the work of Phillip Montgomery aka bonecarverpm. 2 He makes use of real animal horns and carves them with awesome designs.
Here’s a horn called the Wolfpack and the Tree of Life. You have to admit that it is such an impressive piece of work!

The next two photos are of Martin’s Horn. I love how the lion and crosses are detailed.

A closer look doesn’t change my opinion in the slightest bit.

This is the Horn of Oldenfeld with awesome heraldry.

The same horn, but the lower part.

This last set is of the Horn of Trimaris, which is so beautiful that I really had to keep staring at it.

Last, but not the least, is the Welsh Dragon Horn. Needless to say, this is my favorite of all the horns in bonecarverpm’s collection. That dragon looks very much like my “personal dragon” – a piece of artwork that a friend made for me. I think it’s genius how the muscles and scales were added into the details. Dept. of Awesomeness material, for sure!

Yup, this gal’s been blown away.
- Never mind that some horns are actually things that you use to sound a signal and that other horns are merely decorative in purpose. [↩]
