For Hardcore Guitar Geeks

For Hardcore Guitar Geeks

The wonders of technology never cease. You are looking at the Kitara “digital guitar” — a whole new type of instrument that does for guitarists what synthesizers did for pianists. Nothing less than a full digital audio controller, the Kitara from Misa Digital Instruments is designed for musicians who want to include audio synthesis or sampling in their music, but do it in a whole new way. The device is built in the shape of an electric guitar, but instead of strings, it has an 8-inch touchscreen where guitarists traditionally strum, and a full set of 24 frets, each with six buttons. It comes with a library of one hundred Read more »

Meet the New Ghostbusters

Meet the New Ghostbusters

“The franchise rights alone will make us rich beyond our wildest dreams!” Remember that scene near the beginning of Ghostbusters? Peter Venkman’s eyes lit up at the moneymaking possibilities opening up to him and his friends after their first successful encounter with a ghost. It seems like an oddly prescient comment considering the video game franchise, which is taking a turn away from those original actors toward a whole new four-person crew. In the new Sanctum of Slime video game, a new, inexperienced team takes over for the team from the films. And yet, the more things change, the more they stay the same. This “new” crew has fresh faces, Read more »

Stay Cleaner Than Clean With These Bacteria Soaps

Stay Cleaner Than Clean With These Bacteria Soaps

“I am only here for your money. I don’t want to shake anyone’s germy hands!” Can anyone tell me who said that? If you have a penchant for washing your hands, and you have an appreciation for all things microbiological, then CleanerScience’s Etsy shop will be a treat for you. This shop’s tagline “…Making Science a Little Cleaner” is the perfect description of the soaps on sale. This shop specializes in soaps in Petri Dishes, with each soap representing a bacteria culture. The idea is very simple but brilliant, and the soaps are actually very cool to look at! For those concerned with the safety of the items, you will Read more »

Introducing Someone to Anime

Introducing Someone to Anime

Every once in a while I get asked what would be a good series to introduce someone to anime. There is no single answer as everyone has different tastes, but I have found that some series seem to stick more than others. After asking people how they got into anime and which series they found appealing at first, I’ve come up with a small list of series that you can use to introduce your friend/sibling/significant other to the medium based on what they already watch. Most of the people that ask this question will have already heard of all the classics so this will cover some more recent anime. They Read more »

A Printing Chain of Antique and Old Printers

A Printing Chain of Antique and Old Printers

As fan of books(plus paper and pen) I’m impressed by Xavier Antin’s work. Specifically the one where he used four old desktop printers to create an printing chain. He then used the printer chain to print a 46 pages book which he sells for 36 euros(currently out of stock). The first printer of the chain is a Stencil Duplicator from 1880, it prints the color magenta. The second one is a Spirit Duplicator from 1923, it prints the color cyan. A laser printer form 1969 prints black and and Inkjet printer from 1976 prints yellow. Xavier doesn’t explain on his website how exactly the printing process is handled. Only obvious Read more »

Was a Doctor Who MMO Inevitable?

Was a Doctor Who MMO Inevitable?

Yup, it’s true. The Time Lord is getting his own massively-multiplayer online game. Developer Three Rings, a company behind casual games like Puzzle Pirates (for Facebook), Corpse Craft (for iPad), and Bang! Howdy (a casual, browser-based MMO), is producing the game for BBC Worldwide, which will be a free-to-play online world when it launches sometime later this year. Doctor Who: Worlds in Time will let gamers enter the TARDIS and be assigned a challenge by the Doctor to help him fight some of his most infamous enemies. Worlds in Time is described as allowing players to “travel through time and space, explore new worlds, and encounter many alien races, both Read more »

Forgetting My Meds!

Forgetting My Meds!

I was advised to have a look at the Twilight Guardian from Top Cow, now in it’s second issue. So I hightailed it to the store, picked up the two issues and then remembered I also had the introduction to the character back in 2008′s Pilot Season release. Sitting down, I read the three together, and I reached the following conclusion. You should drop everything you are doing and buy this book! The story of an ordinary woman who decides that she must protect her neighbourhood of nine blocks with no powers, and nothing except a roll of quarters as a weapon. Oh, and a Wii glove, but she still Read more »

I Can’t Believe This Was Drawn On an iPad

I Can’t Believe This Was Drawn On an iPad

I know what you’re thinking. This must be some official piece of Toy Story 3 artwork, from Pixar and Disney, right? Wrong. Even harder to believe is that it was drawn entirely by hand on an iPad, using an $8 app called Brushes. Granted, it was done by artist extraordinaire Kyle Lambert, who specializes in artwork made using an iPad. But it’s just too good. I wouldn’t believe it myself if not for this video, showing his Lambert’s process (at high speed) from on-screen sketch to finished product. Amazing, right? (And I bet it’s Steve Jobs’ favorite video ever. Talk about corporate synergy.) Head over this way to see more Read more »

Incredible New Skyrim Trailer

Incredible New Skyrim Trailer

I wish this were a movie, because as a three-minute-long video game trailer, it kills. I didn’t play Oblivion, but my interest in its sequel has just skyrocketed. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim features the return of dragons to the Elder Scrolls universe, using a brand new graphics engine. Bethesda’s commitment to great storytelling is on full display in this trailer, as is that stunning new engine, and the results speak for themselves. The trailer features entirely in-game video. The Elder Scrolls franchise has always been characterized by massive, open worlds where you can play any way you want, and Skyrim promises to take that premise in bold new directions. Be sure Read more »
