The Different Faces of Jar Jar Binks

The Different Faces of Jar Jar Binks

It seems that a majority of my friends are Star Wars fans, and I have heard about the adorable characteristics of Jar Jar Binks one time too often.  This Gungan from the planet Naboo does provide comic relief, but apparently, he is not loved by everyone.  Then again, there is no pleasing everybody anyway. So these guys from Comic Twart decided to feature Jar Jar as their character of the week.  For those who may not have heard of them yet, this blog is comprised of a handful of guys (well, more than a handful actually) who have fun with their character of choice every week.  The artists share their Read more »

Feed: Zombies and Bloggers

Feed: Zombies and Bloggers

Next to vampires, zombies are the most popular supernatural beings in books, movies and TV shows. Especially since last year with the highly promoted release of The Passage by Justin Cronin. The first book of a trilogy, about vampires. It’s a very thick book which wasn’t all that bad, but did not live up to the hype. Today I came across Feed by Mira Grant, it sells itself as a book about zombies in a world where people know about zombies as something natural and non-fictional, like in the TV show True Blood with vampires. Feed was released in May 2010 and is the first in a yet to be Read more »

‘The Gunstringer’ Offers Kinect Gunplay

‘The Gunstringer’ Offers Kinect Gunplay

Twisted Pixel, the game developer behind ‘Splosion Man and Comic Jumper, has announced a new title for Kinect that’s unlike any game for Kinect thus far. Since Kinect was first announced, the elephant in the room has been how the platform would handle traditional games like shooters. Twisted Pixel has come up with a unique solution to this problem, creating a gun-toting, undead cowboy hero who’s really a marionette. The Gunstringer might just be the first Kinect game you can play while sitting down. Controlled entirely via hand gestures, you manipulate the title character like a puppet through both 2D and 3D environments. Walking and running — another problem for Read more »

The World’s Largest Jigsaw Puzzle

The World’s Largest Jigsaw Puzzle

How big would you guess that the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle is? How many pieces do you think it has? And this isn’t some eccentric, one-off art piece; this is a commercially-available product that you can buy and own yourself. I can almost guarantee that whatever your answer, you’re not thinking big enough. A European puzzle manufacturer called Ravensburger has bested the world record with a massive puzzle based on a famous piece of pop art called “Double Retrospect,” by artist Keith Haring. When put together, it measures 17 feet, 8 inches wide (almost 5 and a half meters) by 6 feet, 5 inches high (almost 2 meters), and in Read more »

Shenyang City’s Optimus Prime is the Tallest of Them All

Shenyang City’s Optimus Prime is the Tallest of Them All

Last year, Robin shared with us the tallest Optimus Prime statue ever made. It was displayed outside of the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, where the 2008 Olympics was held. It stood at 10 meters tall, was made out of junk material, and was brought in from Taiwan. As impressive as the statue is, yesterday, it had to hand over the distinction of being the tallest Optimus Prime installation in the world. Another Optimus Prime statue was unveiled in China, this time in Shenyang City. This statue weighs in at 21 tons and is 11 meters tall. It is also made of various car parts – taken from 20 cars.
