Support Tsunami Victims with Nendoroid Miku Hatsune

Support Tsunami Victims with Nendoroid Miku Hatsune

Any Vocaloid fan will have no doubt seen pictures of Miku nendoroids floating around the net. With 11 different versions to choose from, you would think that they are easy to obtain, but anyone who has tried to buy one will know otherwise. Check any store that sells nendoroids and they will probably be sold out of Miku or selling her for a higher price tag. It doesn’t help that most versions are exclusive releases and production of the original Miku has stopped. If you really want a Miku nendoroid and don’t want to pay an exorbitant amount for her, you might be in luck. Good Smile Company is releasing Read more »

Badminton Jedi. Finally badminton made cool

Badminton Jedi. Finally badminton made cool

Let’s face it, badminton isn’t a sport one would describe as, “cool.”  The racquets are small, the projectile players hit is known as a “shuttlecock,” and if a sport is one both children and the elderly can excel at equally one has all the ingredients for a sport played by dorks.  Or is it? ‘Hunted’ Combines FPS & Dungeon-Crawl

‘Hunted’ Combines FPS & Dungeon-Crawl

The “dungeon crawl” experience is a staple of video gaming. Found predominantly in RPGs and MMOs, the term is used to describe enclosed spaces, where players hack and slash their way through winding corridors, collecting loot as they go. Hunted: The Demon’s Forge is atempting to bring demon crawls into the 21st century by fusing the genre with the mechanics of a first-person shooter with two player co-op. Hunted is set in the dark ages of a world called Kala Moor, when vile creatures have risen from beneath the earth, and villagers on the surface have begun to disappear. Mercenaries E’lara, an expert in ranged weapons, and Caddoc, a master Read more »

An Energy Drink for (Geek) Champions

An Energy Drink for (Geek) Champions

Do you drink energy drinks? I’ve been known to down a Red Bull when there’s a big deadline looming. I find I actually like the taste of it, but my wife thinks it’s nasty. (It’s a trade-off; she loves coffee and I can’t stand it.) Now geeks have an energy drink made just for us. It’s not marketed that way or even designated as such on the can. But it doesn’t matter, because the title makes it perfectly clear: Read more »

Atlas Returns

Atlas Returns

This week saw the Grim Ghost and the Phoenix, old staples from the Atlas/Seaboard range back on the shelves courtesy of Ardden, a release I had been eagerly awaiting since I first heard about it, and I must confess I have mixed feelings about the offerings. Nevertheless, I have every intention of supporting the titles to give them a chance to bloom. As much as it pains me to say however, bloom is exactly what they need to do. To start with the Phoenix; written by Jim Krueger, a man from whom I have come to expect great things after series like Earth X and Justice; I found the lead Read more »

Humans vs. Zombies: It’s the Real Thing

Humans vs. Zombies: It’s the Real Thing

Before there was Plants vs. Zombies, there was Humans vs. Zombies.  Don’t believe me? I don’t know if you have heard of this “movement” in universities all over the world. Humans vs. Zombies is actually a live game, where people play as – you got it – humans and zombies. Forget zombie soccer games or plants and zombies games – this is the real thing! The game is held in college campuses – over 200 of them in the US. There are also some universities in Brazil, Denmark, Australia, England, and Canada which hosts the game. It has become so popular that the game is also now being played in Read more »

Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v 19

Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v 19

More of Australia in Internet security news, while donations to Japan fail, stealth robots take evasive action, Duke Nukem takes evasive action too, and geek TV gets some good news. It’s been a busy week, so onward we go. WIN: Stealth Robots Lockheed Martin have developed a robot that’s programmed to hide while mapping its environment in 3D. Acoustic sensors allow it to detect footsteps to remain stealthy and take evasive action, while it creates images of its whereabouts with a laser. It’s the latest in reconnaissance technology and NewScientist has the scoop. Read more »

Might the Green Lantern Tie-in Game Be Good?

Might the Green Lantern Tie-in Game Be Good?

I love watching these professionally-made CG trailers and cutscenes from video games. They’re always a lot more impressive than the games they advertise, thanks to the hefty budget they have to work with. Sadly, you can’t judge a game on the quality of its pre-rendered vid, because it’s never reflective of the actual gameplay. And this one really has the deck stacked against it, being a movie tie-in game and all. Still, as we hold our collectively geeky breath in anticipation of this summer’s Green Lantern film from director Martin Campbell and star Ryan Reynolds, it’s fun to get a look at more media inspired by its creative direction. I’m Read more »
