Twitter‘s Fail Whale has to be the most beloved error message of all time. Displayed at twitter.com anytime the service is “over capacity” with its usage, something about the cute design — by illustrator Yiying Lu — captured users’ hearts. So much so that it’s become one of the best-known images on the Web, and is displayed almost daily in new and creative ways. Even Google loves the Fail Whale! Prey 2 Announced

Prey 2 Announced

Bethesda Softworks has announced the development of Prey 2, and released this teaser trailer to prove it. It’s not often that game studios create live action trailers for their games unless it’s a game with motion controls. This one finds the Prey franchise going all Cloverfield, with a pedestrian’s handheld camera on an airplane following everyday passengers who get caught up in… Well, that would be a spoiler. Let’s just say there’s a sky marshall involved, and according to Joystiq, said sky marshall will be the protagonist you control in the game. Prey 2 is being built on Bethesda’s id Tech 5 software (aka, the Rage engine) by Human Head Read more »

Back Issue Bliss Eclipses The Current Day

Back Issue Bliss Eclipses The Current Day

Ever since I first heard that Aztec Ace was a time-travel based title, I had long wanted to read it, although I never seemed to come across a copy. I was lucky enough to obtain the first issue earlier this week, and I am now incensed to scour the web for the rest of them. Created by Doug Moench, the character lives in an Aztec pyramid that contains a time machine within it, and deals quite competently with the entire subject of time paradox; not a a fashion that is frustrating and makes no sense, but delivering a hint of what occurs when everything all goes horribly wrong. Did This Guy Hack Times Square’s Jumbotron?

Did This Guy Hack Times Square’s Jumbotron?

A hacker going by the handle “BITcrash44” claims to be able to hack into any screen he wants and take over the video being shown. And he says he can do it with nothing but an iPhone with a small video transmitter attachment. In his hand, he holds a remote “video repeater,” which when waved in front of any screen, will override that screen’s signal and broadcast video from his iPhone. To prove it, he filmed this video in Times Square, where you can watch as he starts with a small bus stop screen and eventually works his way up to one of the giant-sized screens Times Square is known Read more »

All Excited About Cars 2 World Grand Prix Posters

All Excited About Cars 2 World Grand Prix Posters

Cars is arguably the best animated motion picture from Disney-Pixar. Who can’t help but love Mater, Luigi, and Guido? Of course, many a kid would go for Lightning McQueen in an instant, but the film is rife with other lovable characters. So, recently, the official announcement for Cars 2 was made, getting every fan out there excited – with June 24 being marked in countless calendars all over the world. The poster was released late last year is cool enough, but the recently released retro posters of the Cars 2 World Grand Prix just blows it away. I saw the four posters at FilmoFilia, and boy, do they look awesome! Read more »

This is Why Batman: Arkham City is Going to KILL

This is Why Batman: Arkham City is Going to KILL

As tired as I am of this trend of slow-mo video game trailers set to moody rock songs, even I have to admit this one’s killer. This new trailer offers our first real look at Batman: Arkham City‘s actual gameplay (previous trailers have shown only CGI animation), and it gives you a hint of the game’s storyline, which involves Batman entering this dangerous new part of town to save Catwoman, who’s been marked for execution. After you’ve watched the video, you’ve got to look through the incredible screenshots below. I still don’t know how Rocksteady Studios squeezes more high-res beauty out of the Unreal engine than anyone else is capable Read more »

If you own a WP7 device, you must download Satalaunch!

If you own a WP7 device, you must download Satalaunch!

There’s a story behind every game and I stumbled upon this gem while lurking through Reddit. It seems that “magnumix” was a disgruntled game developer who decided to channel his frustrations to build one of the gaming gems of WP7, a platform desperately lacking in immersive but free to play games. Dear Reddit, Approximately 11 months ago I created a throw-away account named FrustratedProgrammer asking reddit for advice on what to do with my stuck career. I received some great advice, and tried finding new work without any success mainly due to the state of the economy. Instead, I decided to channel my frustration into something positive, and after several Read more »

Dude Made a Master Chief Costume Out of LEGO

Dude Made a Master Chief Costume Out of LEGO

It takes a LEGO builder of special caliber to build something of their own design that’s recognizable to others. Now imagine compounding that challenge by trying to make something out of LEGO that you can actually wear. By its very nature, LEGO is far too fragile to be worn. It’s not meant for building clothes; basic human movement is more than enough to cause the bricks to come apart and shatter on the floor. I’m not sure how teenage master builder Ben Caulkins managed to avoid this — if he glued the pieces together or what. But cleverly using Technic pieces for the framework, he modeled his costume pieces to Read more »

What Movies Look Like in Barcode Form

What Movies Look Like in Barcode Form

Barcodes are the schnitz these days, even though they have been around for the longest time. Of course, QR Codes are garnering a lot of attention as well, but the good old barcodes still provide some amusement – especially if they are anything like these barcodes that the guys at Moviebarcode have created. What they did was to get hold of some of their favorite movies (I am assuming the movies in the list are their favorites, of course) and then compressed all the images. The result? Very interesting images. Think color spectrums. Think seeing hours of movies compressed into one collage of colors. Granted, these barcodes are NOT barcodes Read more »
