Sony Online Entertainment has spent a ton of money on DC Universe Online, and boy does it show. The massively multiplayer online universe has so much to do, you can and will spend months trying to get to it all. Of course, not everything is required of players; in fact, DCUO‘s diversity of options might just be its greatest strength. That, and the enormous playground that you’re given total freedom to explore and enjoy. First things first. DC Universe Online presents players with the chance to create their own superhero or supervillain. You can customize almost everything about your avatar, including not just physical attributes and costumes, but down to Read more »

Steampunk Star Wars
You don’t have to be a steampunk fan to adore these incredible reimaginings of your favorite Star Wars characters by artist Bjorn Hurri. And by “your favorite characters,” I of course mean “original trilogy characters.” To call Hurri’s work “fan art” is a gross misconception. These beautifully detailed illustrations belong in a fine art collection. In Hurri’s steampunk world, Boba Fett is a wiry, bug-like character with an elaborate jetpack that leaks fuel. C-3PO is as fussy as ever, but his red necktie indicates he’s a low-level worker of some kind. Han Solo is a pipe-chewing, bowler hat and pinstripe-wearing rogue with mutton chops and fancy specs. Jabba the Hutt Read more »
Japan Takes A Page Out of Evangelion
By now everyone has probably already heard of the disasters happening in Japan, including earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, nuclear reactor meltdowns, and volcanic eruptions. This has left many systems severely crippled, one of which is the Japanese power grid. The earthquakes and ensuing tsunami took out several of the country’s nuclear power plants and the ones remaining are not able to provide nearly enough electricity to supply the country. In order to prevent a complete blackout, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) is implementing rolling blackouts where turn off power in certain areas for a few hours per day to ensure other areas have the power they need. Rolling blackouts Read more »

The Legend of Zelda (Zelda) is one of the great video games of all-time with its mixture of action, adventure, and puzzle solving. For many, their first exposure to Zelda was as a game played on The Nintendo Entertainment System. Read more »
When Aliens Attack: 12 Invasions You’ve Never Seen Before
What is it about alien invasion stories that we love so much? As entertainment goes, there are only so many variations on the formula, yet we have an insatiable appetite for watching our own destruction at the hands of otherworldly invaders. This year alone, there are no less than six major theatrical films that involve menacing aliens (Battle L.A., Apollo 18, Super 8, Cowboys & Aliens, The Darkest Hour, and The Thing; and that’s not counting alien-heavy tentpoles like Green Lantern and Transformers). Clearly, we’ve got lots more mayhem and devastation to look forward to. In the meantime, here are twelve alien invasions you’ve never seen before, as realized by twelve Read more »
JJ Abrams Super 8 Trailer Released
Since the TV show ‘Alias’ I have been a fan of JJ Abrams. He went from producing a show like ‘Felicity’ to the mega cult show ‘Lost’. I must admit form those three I only watched Alias mostly, Lost also, but I never really got into it. Those familiar with Abrams work might have also seen ‘What about Brian” which was canceled after two seasons. ‘Fringe’ is his latest TV show feels like a way to keep the Lost fans. The point is clear, JJ Abrams can manage more then one genre, he is an all around producer/writer. He knows how to attract viewers and keep them enthralled. It is Read more »
Wins and Fails This Week in Geek v 17
I’m up in arms over ham radio legislation and BioWare’s back-ends, while Australia’s up in arms over cyberwarfare and nobody in particular seems upset about the massive onslaught of Star Trek in Discovery’s final voyage. But whatever side you take on the major stories, there’s no denying it’s been a particularly interesting week in geek. Let’s jump in. FAIL: Everything About the Following Story So, an alleged troll gets all up in BioWare’s thang on their forums. NBD, right? Happens all the time. BioWare sent the troll scurrying back under his bridge with a forum ban. The kicker? A back-end option in Dragon Age II permitted BioWare to ban his Read more »
The Fate of the Old Republic
PAX East kicked off this morning in Boston, bringing gamers together with high profile game developers, so that the public can get its first exposure to hot upcoming titles. Among the game media being debuted this weekend is a brand new trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare’s MMO that’s set a thousand years before the events of the film series. The trailer is titled “Fate of the Galaxy,” and unlike past videos, this one is made up entirely of game footage, using no fancy CGI animation. I think it gives potential fans the best look yet at what playing the game will be like. Be sure to watch Read more »
Savage Is The Word
I was going to write today about how pleased I am that the Sigilverse of CrossGen had returned under the Marvel banner; and to refute Mark Waid’s comments over at Newsarama that the Sigilverse suffered under the “forced shared-universe nonsense”. His words in an interview last August. I was a follower of many of the CrossGen titles, and was bitterly disappointed as the company folded during the Negation War crossover, which I had been eagerly awaiting. This was one major event I had been salivating over at the very thought, for easily more than a year. Thus when I read Karl Kesel’s words, I was blown away. “That is so Read more »
