Steampunk Star Wars

You don’t have to be a steampunk fan to adore these incredible reimaginings of your favorite Star Wars characters by artist Bjorn Hurri. And by “your favorite characters,” I of course mean “original trilogy characters.” To call Hurri’s work “fan art” is a gross misconception. These beautifully detailed illustrations belong in a fine art collection.

In Hurri’s steampunk world, Boba Fett is a wiry, bug-like character with an elaborate jetpack that leaks fuel.

C-3PO is as fussy as ever, but his red necktie indicates he’s a low-level worker of some kind.

Han Solo is a pipe-chewing, bowler hat and pinstripe-wearing rogue with mutton chops and fancy specs.

Jabba the Hutt is a morbidly obese blob, forced to get around on his own steam-powered chariot that’s sagging heavily under his bulk.

Princess Leia has more curves than ever, sporting a look that’s a study in contrasts. A beautiful, flowing white dress is worn under utilitarian leathers.

And Yoda is a weird little strung-out guy who’s huffing on something that I’m hoping is oxygen, but is more likely to be opium.

The following pieces are just sketches and are even marked as “works in progress,” so they’ll no doubt go through some refinement before he posts the final versions. I’m particularly intrigued by his interpretation of Luke’s lightsaber.

He’s still adding to his portfolio, so there should be even more of these to come. Hopefully he’ll get to them sooner than later, ’cause I’m dying to see his interpretation of Darth Vader.
