When Not To Revamp

When Not To Revamp

With DC only soliciting one comic for release on August 31st, speculation abounds as what the company is planning. The scariest proposition that is being bandied around is that DC plans another One Year Later type event, dropping readers into new stories after some alleged gap of time, like they did after Infinite Crisis. I shudder at the thought. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the ’52′ series, it hardly covered the activity of a worlds-worth of characters, and favourite titles such as the Titans appeared to descend into nonsense. Earlier plotlines were left hanging; characters appeared and disappeared with no thought of reader loyalty to those characters at all. After all, Read more »

Modern Warfare 3 Trailer in High-Res Glory

Modern Warfare 3 Trailer in High-Res Glory

Here it is. The trailer you’ve been waiting for. We’ve got the real deal gameplay footage, baby, and it’s in HD. You’ve never seen a Call of Duty on this big a scale. Seriously, if future games in the series get much bigger than this, it’ll have to be humans vs. aliens for the fate of the whole planet. Read more »

The World of Minecraft is Vast: Patch 1.6 this week!

The World of Minecraft is Vast: Patch 1.6 this week!

Notch has a new vid out for Minecraft patch 1.6 with the most notable feature being user-crafted maps. And yes we’re all raving because the announcement was done in the form of a trailer with campy voice over. But that’s fine. It’s Minecraft for crying out loud. + Added Nether support to multiplayer + Added craftable maps + Added hatches + Added tall grass in some biomes + Mushrooms now spreads (very) slowly + Added server property view-distance. Sets the radius of terrain updates (in chunks) to send to the players. Range 3-15, default 10. Full changes here. Read more »

Coolest Mashup You’ll See Today

Coolest Mashup You’ll See Today

The Muppets and the X-Men. Who would have thought that they can come together in such an amazing piece of work? Jim Henson and Stan Lee would both be proud of what DeviantArtist ~Rahzzah has created, don’t you think? The artist actually published this drawing on the day that marked the 21st anniversary of Jim Henson’s death. I don’t know about you, but it’s a tribute that anyone would appreciate. Unfortunately, prints are not available as of now, as DeviantArt “won’t release this as a print for copyright issues.” If the artist were accepting requests for future mashups, which characters would you like to see? Steamboy – Review

Steamboy – Review

If you’re a big fan of the steampunk genre, then you might want to consider taking a look at an anime movie called Steamboy. Taking place in Victorian-era England, Steamboy follows a young boy by the name of Ray Steam as he is thrust into a war over a new power source, the Steam Ball. The Steam Ball contains a highly pressurized liquid that was discovered deep underground in Iceland and was co-invented by Ray’s father, Edward, and grandfather, Lloyd. Unfortunately, relations between Edward and Lloyd turned sour and Ray is torn between the ideologies of his father and grandfather as they both fight over control of the Steam Ball. Read more »

50 Minimalist Movie Posters

50 Minimalist Movie Posters

The key to good minimalistic design is to use as few shapes as possible, and make sure it’s rich in symbolism. No detail — not even the contrast between the colors used — is to be wasted. All of it must serve the purpose of conveying much with little. Here are 50 awesome movie posters made by fans in terrific minimalist style. Many of them are themed around inside jokes that only those who have seen the film will get, and there’s a healthy mix of classic film and modern (and even a few that aren’t out yet). Get ready to smile when that instant moment of understanding hits you. Read more »
