Sorrows and Joys

Sorrows and Joys

Just as reality swings from side to side in the comics worlds, as Age Of X has finished and Flashpoint commences; so to does reality swing up and down in, well, reality. It was with regret that I heard yesterday that the excellent Human Target TV series has been dropped by Fox. There has been some discussion on the inter-webs whether the addition of the two female characters Mrs Pucci and Ames strengthened the series or detracted from the first series’ dynamic. As fun as the first series was, if I can add my four-penneth, then I have to say they added greater conflict and more subtleties to the show, Read more »

Awesomest Custom Made Helmets You’ll Ever See

Awesomest Custom Made Helmets You’ll Ever See

There’s nothing like riding a motorcycle with the wind blowing in your face on a nice sunny day, is there? Of course, you can always liven things up by wearing a custom made helmet. There is no shortage of custom-made helmets, but the ones that YouTube user tigerpause444 has made seem to have no match. The videos of his helmets that he has uploaded are not new but his creations are too cool not to share. Take this favorite of mine. Without a doubt, this Iron Man helmet takes home the prize. Here’s how the helmet was made. He also has a Bumblebee Helmet. But I like this Optimus Prime Read more »

A New Alan Wake Game is Coming

A New Alan Wake Game is Coming

Despite the image above… Remedy Entertainment says not to call their new game Alan Wake 2. They’re working on a new project that furthers the story of the criminally underplayed Alan Wake. Just what that new project is, they’re not saying, but they will say that it’s not DLC for the first game, and it’s not going to be called Alan Wake 2. What they are saying is that an official announcement is forthcoming, most likely around E3 in June. Word about a new Wake game was leaked by Joystiq before Remedy was ready to announce it. But being the troopers that they are, Remedy rolled with it, and wrote in to Read more »

Scifi Ikea Manuals

Scifi Ikea Manuals

I’m just nuts over these Ikea manuals. They’re not real of course, but anyone who’s ever put together a piece of Ikea furniture will recognize the smiling, line-drawn character, the list of materials needed to build, and the wordless, step-by-step instructions. With tongue firmly in cheek, CollegeHumor put together these Ikea manual parodies of famous objects from science fiction movies and TV. I love them all, but my favorite has to be the TARDIS, because of the Fez. Fezzes are cool, you know. Like bow ties. Read more »

“Sketches3″ 2011 Sketchbook & Print Project

“Sketches3″ 2011 Sketchbook & Print Project

Ever heard of Tom Hodges? He’s this guy who is best known for his Star Wars web comic, and he is looking for pledges for a brand new project called “Sketches3” 2011 Sketchbook Print Project. Tom Hodges continues to be the Lead Artist in the web comic but he also has other projects including providing art for Jane Wiedlin’s “Lady Robotika”. Here is a sampling of what you can see in the Sketchbook. If those sketches are anything to go by, the finished work should be something worthy of putting on your coffee table and showing off to your visitors. Alternatively, simply going over the sketchbook on your own should Read more »

Han Solo in carbonite recreated with Microsoft Kinect

Han Solo in carbonite recreated with Microsoft Kinect

Very interesting projects using Microsoft’s Kinect present themselves seemingly on a daily basis.  MIT graduate student Edwina Portocarrero, adorned in a Princess Leia costume, recreated the holographic projection plea for assistance made famous by Carrie Fisher.  More recently we profiled Be Your Own Souvenir, a system which scans people in real-time and generates a miniature figurine. New World Record Set for Rubik’s Cube

New World Record Set for Rubik’s Cube

Aspiring Rubik’s Cube world record holders, you just might have to work on your skills a little more. Before the end of last week, the Rubik’s Cube world was all abuzz with news about the Kubaroo Open 2011 and the results of that event was dominated by one name: Feliks Zemdegs. This kid, who is only 15 years old, managed to wow everyone watching with his Rubik’s Cube skills, especially when he solved a 3x3x3 cube in merely 6.24 seconds. That’s less time it would take some people to name all the colors in the cube without looking! Watch how he did it. Oh, and contrary to a brilliant comment Read more »
