If you haven’t watched HBO’s Game of Thrones yet, you really owe it to yourself to set aside time to watch it. In spite of the criticism that it has received – essentially due to being NSFW – the TV series based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books is fast gaining a horde of followers.
And no matter what you end up thinking about the plot, characters, etc., I think that you will agree that the opening theme of the show is impressive. It’s something that seems to be inherent in stories about kings, wars, castles, dragons, and what have you. The background music has to be grand. It has to make you feel as if you were sweeping along a vast countryside with your armies to back you up. No need for words – just the music.
From what I have been able to find, this theme was composed by Ramin Djawadi. The soundtrack of the show will also be released on June 14.1
For now, watch/listen to this so that you will better understand what I mean.

Now I didn’t really think one could make it any better – but I was oh so wrong. Last Friday, this video hit YouTube, and even if if has been talked about a lot over the weekend, I think that it deserves to be viewed over and over again. I present to you WhiteNoiseLab’s take on this already awesome theme – rockified, if you will. 2
One-man-band. Two electric guitars – at least. One acoustic guitar. One bass guitar. A drum set. All the technical stuff you need to put the music together. He calls it “heavy version”, I say it’s the awesomer version.
I’m in love.

- You can also get the mp3 version. You know what my ringtone will be now. [↩]

You forgot this guy, who made the whole theme on two violin and mixing, and I personally think its awesome :) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yydcG9woWA
I really like Game of Thrones but the opening credits are the worst thing, in my opinion. It’s not the music: that’s great and powerful. It’s the visuals that are completely unfit. For one, it’s computer graphics that you can’t mistake for anything else, even if it’s hi-res. And then it speaks of clockwork, mechanisms and machinery, which are the things that are farthest from what this series is about. Perhaps the authors’ intention was to depict the scheming, but that is far-fetched and still makes it feel completely out of place.
I love their opening theme so much! Just the right music and graphics to prepare you for the episode. Here’s a list of my fave versions/covers: http://veronicaofmanila.blogspot.com/2011/09/6-favorite-game-of-thrones-opening.html
The main melody is not original. Not certain where I’ve heard it, but I’m never wrong. It will probably come to me as I attempt to fall asleep sometime, and I will post then.
Hi men, it’s wonderful music…. Your great musician.
Thanks..
