So What Were the Top Games of E3?

So What Were the Top Games of E3?

Another year, another E3 now just a memory. It was an exciting year with major new hardware reveals and lots of big-name game titles shown off. We really seem to be arriving at a new golden age for video games, when new ideas and increasingly better equipment are making it possible for developers to keep dreaming up stuff that players have never seen before. So which titles at E3 got top marks from critics? Read more »

Double Dose of Hell

Double Dose of Hell

So, today we see John Constantine returns to the world of spandex super-heroes, even as his mature readers Vertigo title delves into its traditional adult themes. Coming from the days when John was a permanent fixture of the DCU, I should welcome this, yet for some reason I have reservations. John has made his home at Vertigo, in fact he defined Vertigo alongside Swampy and the Sandman. Now thanks to that trio, the lines between Vertigo and the DCU have always been blurred, and one can ask if the ‘Mature Readers’ title actually means a great deal in today’s marketplace? However, I think it does. It meant enough for it Read more »

Map of the Square and Stationary Earth

Map of the Square and Stationary Earth

Map lovers, here is something that you would want to take notice of: The Map of the Square and Stationary Earth. This map was drawn by Professor Orlando Ferguson in Hot Springs, South Dakota way back in 1893. Today, there seems to be only one in existence – at least the only intact one. The idea of a square and stationary Earth is totally outdated and we all know that this map is so far from being accurate. That fact makes the map a novelty, though, and being the only intact one left, it is rather valuable. The current owner is Don Homuth, a former North Dakota senator. He has Read more »

Now that Nintendo has announced its intentions to jump the generational gap with the forthcoming Wii U, chatter around the industry inevitably must turn to its two chief rivals, and when they might answer Nintendo’s challenge with brand new hardware of their own. Read more »

Marvel Avengers Cosbaby Series

Marvel Avengers Cosbaby Series

So we’re going to see The Avengers next year, and as can be expected, we are bound to see all sorts of promos and gimmicks related to the movie. As early as now, Hot Toys has announced something that will delight any toy collector. Even I, who cannot be called one, am rather excited about the toys. Take a look. Hot Toys decided to make figures from three movies, with two characters from each movie. Iron Man and Tony Stark, Loki and Thor, and Red Skull and Captain America. It’s a no brainer which ones I like the most! Even at 1/6th scale, Iron Man’s (and Tony Stark’s) appeal is Read more »

The Most Creative Way to Recycle an Old Boeing 747

The Most Creative Way to Recycle an Old Boeing 747

Where do airplanes go when they die? Do they have airplane heaven to look forward to? While most airplanes are dismantled and the separate parts are dealt with accordingly (scrap metal shops, recycling, etc.), here’s one airplane that has been re-purposed and turned into a house. Definitely not the kind of house you see everyday. Take another look at that, and tell me that it isn’t a beauty! The house uses parts of a decommissioned Boeing 747, with the guys of David Hertz Architects being the masterminds of the project. The house is located in Malibu, already one of the most strategic places in the area – strategic in terms Read more »

JNTO Embraces Otaku Tourism

JNTO Embraces Otaku Tourism

Japan is a well-known destination of choice for anime and manga otaku, but unlike what some people might have you believe, the entire country isn’t one big Pokémon store with cute girls in school uniforms wandering around. Rather, most of the stores and establishments that fans seek out are located in small pockets scattered around the country, with each one catering to a particular subset of the otaku fandom. Without previously going to all of these places, and having a lack of detailed English guides, it can be quite a task trying to find what you’re looking for. Luckily, for anyone planning a trip to Japan soon, the Japan National Read more »
