The characters all die. Would you make it if you got dumped in the middle of the Seven Kingdoms? Don’t get me wrong – I love this series, but I have never denied the fact that every reading makes me depressed because all the “good” ones die. Even the “bad” ones with “good” sides die. They all die. Still, I think it’s merely a representation of real life – sooner or later we’ll all die, albeit not in such dramatic or grisly ways as George R.R. Martin’s characters do. I am sure you have heard/encountered some people who think that one shouldn’t eat meat because it’s taking advantage of animals. Political correctness aside, I see some flaws in their arguments, but I will not get into that here. (There is, of course, the argument that raising animals for food contributes largely to the problem of greenhouse gases.) Instead, I propose a solution which may or may not ruin your appetite. So I’ve finally gotten around to playing Batman: Arkham Asylum lately. Yeah, I know, I’m way behind the curve. It got to be one of those games that kept be swept to the bottom of the pile. Shouldn’t have, but did. And of course I’m learning that the game does indeed rock every bit as much as the years of hype have suggested. The people behind Thomas the Tank Engine have hired Shane Acker, the director/animator who created 9, to develop a live action big-screen Thomas movie. The movie is described as a complete re-imagining of Thomas‘ cast of talking trains and the mythical Island of Sodor into “a next generation fantasy adventure film franchise.” The look and feel of it all will be completely new and different than the preschool TV series.
