Should you buy the Animus Edition or the Collectors’ Edition of Assassin’s Creed Revelations this November, you’re going to get something extra special in your goodie pack. Assassin’s Creed Embers is a new animated short film that’s been crafted by UbiWorkshop as a special “thank you” to the core fans. But what’s it about?
Assassin’s Creed Embers is a 20-minute animated film that provides a new perspective on the life of Ezio Auditore. Specifically, the end of his life, which is where both Embers and Revelations finds him. The film stars a white-haired Ezio who, as you can see from the trailer above, is still pretty darn spry — and married to a young’un (well, compared to him, anyway).
In related news, Ubisoft revealed at Comic-Con last week that another side project is on the way: Assassin’s Creed The Chain, a new comic book series from Karl Kerschl and Cameron Stewart. The duo also created the Assassin’s Creed The Fall comic book miniseries together, which told the stories of Assassin characters Daniel Cross and Nikolai Orelov. The Chain will tell the next chapter of their stories.
No release date has been announced for The Chain yet, but one assumes it will be timed to coincide with Revelations this Christmas. There’s also an Assassin’s Creed Encyclopedia on the way, expected to release this November if all goes according to plan.
The jaded and the cynical might think that Ubisoft is “cashing in” on a profitable franchise, but personally, I’m excited to see how this fascinating universe becomes more and more fleshed out.
