SVK: New Comic Book Concept with Thought Bubbles Visible Only Under UV

SVK: New Comic Book Concept with Thought Bubbles Visible Only Under UV

Comic books are evolving.  Evidence of this evolution occurs each year at Comic Con, in the rebirth of films featuring comic book characters and in the dearth of once-popular monthly comics.  Additional evidence of comic book evolution has arrived from a collaboration between Warren Ellis, Matt Brooker and London-based design studio BERG titled, “SVK.” Read more »

Tweason’ale “Moving Pictures” Will Make You Thirsty

Pouring strawberry juice into the brew

Remember those moving photographs that Darice wrote about sometime ago? They were awesome, especially since in some images, you don’t immediate see what the moving aspect is. I chanced upon some moving photographs today, but they are of a different kind. The kind that will want you to head on over to your favorite bar, or even just your fridge, for the bottle of ice cold beer. Brewer Dogfish Head has a new gluten-free brew – Tweason’ale that is flavored with strawberry and honey. I am not much for flavored beer, but there is something about their marketing campaign – in which these moving images play a large role at Read more »

You’re Spoiling Me!

Elric The Balance Lost #1 from Boom

Ever had one of those weeks where you discover a comic that seems like it has been written specifically for you? Whether it’s the chosen cast of characters, the art or the subject matter; or more likely a combination of all three; you simply know that when the writer sat down, he or she had you specifically in mind. This week, I have been lucky to be so gifted. Twice, all at once! After a couple of months where although there were many series that gained my interest, there were none that gave me that tingle, none that I knew I would place in my ‘never sell this on eBay Read more »

Arkane & Bethesda Announce New IP: ‘Dishonored’

Arkane & Bethesda Announce New IP: ‘Dishonored’

When Bethesda Softworks announces a brand new title, gamers shut up and pay attention. Okay, so they’ve had a few clunkers (not sure what they were thinking with Wet, and I still can’t make much progress with Brink), but this is the studio that brings us The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, for crying out loud. And their current games in development, including Rage and Prey 2, look stunning. Today we add to that list Dishonored, a brand new franchise from Bethesda subsidiary Arkane Studios. You may know Arkane as the developer behind Arx Fatalis, and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Read more »

16 Time Machines

Quantum Leap

Writing a time travel story is easy. Anybody can do it. Just think up a scenario where someone goes backwards or forwards in time, and interacts with the events there. The tricky part is in making the time machine believable. Whether by science or magic, here are sixteen of the most memorably awesome (and memorably lame) time machines given to us by film and television. Read more »

A LEGO Lord of the Rings’ The Dark Tower Larger than Frodo Baggins

A LEGO Lord of the Rings’ The Dark Tower Larger than Frodo Baggins

Adult fascination with LEGOs never seems to die.  We’ve profiled the creation of a massive LEGO “Garrison of Moriah” by a Star Wars fan and the construction of an equally large LEGO replica of the “Love Boat” by a fan of the television show with the same name.  Now a fan of The Lord of the Rings has unveiled his own LEGO creation, The Dark Tower (Barad-Dûr), built for Brick World 2011. 3D Chocolate Printer – It Can’t Get Any Better Than This!

3D Chocolate Printer

3D printing has just gotten cool. I mean really cool. There is no denying that the idea of being able to print objects that actually look real and that you can actually touch and play with is nice. Especially if that object is a teeny tiny version of yourself. While 3D printers are not yet that prevalent, they cannot be ignored anymore. From printing in 3D with bone to printing out your own chess set – I think that we shall be seeing more ways to amuse ourselves using 3D printers. This new 3D printer takes home the blue ribbon in my eyes, though. Forget bone meal as the material. Read more »

Lasers and radio-controlled cars. A match made in miniature car heaven

Lasers and radio-controlled cars. A match made in miniature car heaven

Radio-controlled (RC) cars are super. The self-powered miniature cars or trucks controlled using a remote emitting a radio-frequency connecting both car and controller remain as neat today as they were when appearing on the Christmas list of yours truly for a decade during my youth. Now, thanks to technological advances, RC car love may skyrocket all because of lasers! Read more »
