Proun is Simple, Addicting and Pay What You Want!

Proun is Simple, Addicting and Pay What You Want!

A little game slipped by our fingers last week. The end of June marked the release of Proun, which I would like to describe as part racing game and part art piece. One that you’d actually consider having on interactive mall displays, cafes and such. Proun is fairly simple. The race is set in a rather strange geometric world and you roll a pinball through a spine, evading obstacles as the game gets faster and faster. For the faint of heart, the game may encourage some sort of vertigo especially when you go all topsy turvy and the objects around you flash by as the speed increases. But that’s not Read more »

Great Toy Titles

Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior #3

Newsarama today have posted an article entitled “TRANSFORMERS & Beyond: 5 Best Marvel TOY Comics”, yet I have to take issue with their choices. To my mind, they have missed out one of the very best toy-linked titles of all time. Although no one can deny the quality of the Micronauts, ‘They come from Inner Space’; or Rom, Spaceknight, the latter of which I have sung praises about previously, there was another toy character that seemed to get lost in the shuffle. Back in 1983, The Saga Of Crystar, Crystal Warrior only lasted for eleven issues, and like most toys was based on quite a simple concept. Beings of crystal Read more »

The Physics Behind NERF Bullets

Nerf Vulcan

Non-Expanding Recreational Foam. NERF. Nerf. Call it how you wish. This toy line created by Parker Brothers (and now owned by Hasbro) has fascinated kids of all ages since the 70s and continues to be a rather popular choice these days. In fact, I have been frequenting toy stores recently, and I was really surprised to see all the different kinds of NERF guns available. I am not complaining, but I kind of miss those good old days when a simple gun (the toy kind, of course) was all that was needed. Anyhow, with countless people having fond memories of NERF (not to mention people who continue to create new Read more »

Prey 2 is Blade Runner in Space

Prey 2: Screenshot

Killian Samuels is about to go where no man has gone before. In Prey 2 — a sequel just barely connected to its namesake — this air marshal is quite literally “abducted by aliens” while on an air flight, no less. After being taken to the alien world Exodus, via circumstances yet to be revealed, Samuels decides to accept this new life that fate has dealt him and becomes a bounty hunter there, using his skills to take on jobs and generally fight the (good? bad?) fight. Wicked Cool Transformers Concept Art

"Megatron" design by Josh Nizzi

Did you see Transformers: Dark of the Moon? Not a perfect film — not by a long shot. But certainly a lot better than the dreck that was Revenge of the Fallen. Whether you loved or hated the movie, one thing you can’t argue is that the giant robots look frickin’ awesome. Check out these amazing digital renderings of Megatron, the Wreckers, the Dreads, and lots more, created by artist Josh Nizzi as concept art for the film. Included: an unused design for the classic character Ultra Magnus. Read more »

4th of July Sale Pick: Bang! The Official Video Game

4th of July Sale Pick: Bang! The Official Video Game

With the 4th of July iTunes sale ongoing, I thought I’d recommend a game that doesn’t usually make it to the Top charts. I was introduced to Bang! The Bullet rather late. If you’ve never heard of it, it is ONLY one of the most well-made card games in existence. Bang! is a spaghetti western up to 8 players where you take on different roles with varying objectives: The sheriff needs to eliminate the outlaws, the deputies need to assist their sheriff; the outlaws of course need to eliminate the good guys, while the sole renegade needs to be the last man standing to win. The catch is that all Read more »

How Geeks Do Hamburgers

How Geeks Do Hamburgers

Happy 4th of July! Whether you’re celebrating this patriotic day here in the U.S.A., or you live elsewhere and know nothing about it, there’s one thing we can all agree on: hamburgers. Who doesn’t love a good burger, especially on the one national holiday that was invented for grilling out? This Independence Day, enjoy a hamburger the way geeks do — by celebrating their glory the way that only geeks can. Read more »
