Announced today at Comic-Con by BioWare: the forever-in-development Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO is now available for pre-order. They also announced the details about the requisite Collector’s Edition, which you’ll find after the jump. We still don’t have a release date, but they wouldn’t announce today’s stuff unless the release was imminent, right?
Pre-ordering Star Wars: The Old Republic will get you an access code for early access to the game, but the number of codes available are limited. All pre-orders will come with an in-game color stone that will change the effect given off by your weapon of choice.
BioWare says that SW:TOR will be available from participating retailers in three formats.
There will of course be the regular “Standard Edition,” which includes a disc containing the game software, along with 30 days of access. (A subscription will be required to play the MMO beyond those first 30 days.) It will retail for $59.99.
The “Digital Deluxe Edition” includes everything in the Standard Edition, along with the following five virtual items for your avatar: a Flare Gun, Training Droid, personal HoloDancer, HoloCam, and flying STAP vehicle. It will cost $79.99.
The “Collector’s Edition” includes everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition, along with a real Darth Malgus statue, the journal of Jedi Master Gnost Dural to read, the Music of the Old Republic soundtrack CD, a mockup security key, a physical map of the entire in-game galaxy, and access to an in-game store that has items exclusively available for Collector’s Edition owners. This package will sell for $149.99.
There are also digital versions available to preorder at EA’s Origin online service. Also announced today at Comic-Con: BioWare is hosting a series of open “Beta Test Weekends” starting in September. They gave no details on how to gain access to these special events yet, but expect more information to be available later this summer at starwarstheoldrepublic.com.
