Unveiled today as the September cover for industry-leading magazine Game Informer is the long-rumored follow-up, Borderlands 2. Just don’t bother hoping for details; publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software are keeping quiet so the print magazine can have the exclusive. But we do know when to expect the game.
According to Take 2 Interactive, Borderlands 2 is expected to arrive in stores during Take 2’s “2013 fiscal year,” which is defined as April 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013. It will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows. (Note the conspicuous absence of Nintendo’s Wii U.) Borderlands 2 will continue the four-player co-op fun of the original, but with new characters, skills, enemies, weapons, equipment, new environments representing unexplored areas of Pandora, and a vastly improved mission system.
Gamers can get their first real look at the game in action at Gamescom 2011 (August 17-21) and PAX Prime (August 26-28). The September issue of Game Informer — which depicts a beefy new character standing over the dead body of the first game’s iconic “Psycho Bandit” — should be arriving in subscribers’ mailboxes and at newsstands everywhere right about nowish.
