Mutant Therapy

New Mutants #28 Harsh therapy

With it being shipping day today, I probably should wax lyrical about any issue ones released today, such as Robert Kirkman and Rob Liefeld’s Infinite #1. I mean, this is Robert Kirkman, creator of Invincible and the Walking Dead, what’s not to like? I confess I am not a fan of Liefeld’s art, and what I have read of the plot in advance interviews with the writer, I see very little to differentiate it from say Stan Lee’s The Traveller or various other time travel stories I have read. I pray Mr Kirkman will surprise me. Should I write about the fact that Flashpoint has its penultimate issue today? My Read more »

Get Ready for International Beer Day 2011!

Best Beer in America

In case you haven’t heard it yet, August 5 is International Beer Day. It has been celebrated all over the world for four years now, thanks to Jesse Avshalomov, Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez. Lest you get too excited about having a license to drink as many bottles of beer you want on Friday, let me briefly remind you what International Beer Day is all about. This special day is not just about drinking yourself to oblivion. It does have a three-fold purpose: To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer. To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer. To Read more »

To Spoil or Not to Spoil?

Gears of War 3

An early alpha build of Gears of War 3 leaked to Torrent sites in July, followed by in-game videos hitting YouTube and the like shortly thereafter that showed off key moments in the game. A new interview by Edge Magazine with executive producer Rod Fergusson finds Epic Games sticking it to those who would choose to ruin the experience for themselves. So I ask you… Are you one of them? A Sort of Backstory to Pee Pee Boy

A Sort of Backstory to Pee Pee Boy

Every morning Timmy wakes up to the call of the wild. Like all children, Timmy plays to the phantasms of childlish imaginations and believes his toilet is out to eat him. For more than once has he told his parents about this dilemma and the adults, as all adults will be shrug off the phantasms as nothing more than games children play or an overactive imagination. The truth, in fact, is that the residence is under another type of occupancy — a poltergeist that has chosen to make the toilet on the upper floor its second home. So Timmy has been rather fastidious with his dealings with the toilet seat Read more »

Rorschmap Puts the Fun in Google Maps

Manila Rorschmap

Does anyone remember what it was like when Google Maps first came out? If memory serves me correctly, the service was launched some time in 2005. What I do remember is not finding much use for it back then since my area was not covered yet. Today, I cannot count the number of times I have had to thank Google Maps for helping me find my way. Yeah, my sense of direction can use some improvement. Anyhow, I guess we can all agree that Google Maps is very practical; practical being the operative word. And we all know how being practical sometimes is no fun at all. So how about Read more »

2010 Anime Saimoe Tournament Preliminaries

2010 Anime Saimoe Tournament Preliminaries

It’s that time of year again when anime fans from all over Japan get together to decide on the next moe (pronounced mo-eh) queen of the year. If this is your first time hearing of saimoe, it is basically a popularity contest between all of the female characters in every anime that has aired in the past year. The tournament works by first having people nominate the characters they would like to see in the tournament. The rules for nominating a character are that she has to be female, and she has to have come from an anime that has aired on Japanese television or released on DVD in the Read more »

Firestorm the Firebreathing LEGO Dragon

Firestorm Night

I have always been attracted to LEGO creations (who hasn’t?), but I have never been one to spend hours playing with LEGO bricks. Neither do I go out of my way to examine LEGO creations unless they totally stand out; and boy, does this LEGO dragon stand out! Created by akama1_lego, the unique creature is called Firestorm. Not totally unique but definitely appropriate. For sure, countless dragons have been created using LEGO bricks, but this LEGO dragon is way ahead of all the others. Aside from the fact that it looks really cool and imposing, Firestorm actually breathes fire. End of discussion. Here are shots of this hot, hot, hot Read more »
