Could anyone have predicted the crazy popular yet bizarre phenomenon of Planking? But look out, Planking. There’s a new player in town with a splash of geekiness that makes your horizontal lying-down look like the kiddie ride at a department store. And it takes its inspiration from one very popular Dark Knight.
“Batmanning” takes Planking vertical and flips it on its head. Literally. The idea is to hang upside down by your feet, while holding perfectly still and rigid (just like Planking). You know, like a bat.
It appears to have originated — like so many Internet memes — on college campuses, as you can see from the many shirtless lads in the video above suspended by nothing but the tops of their feet. I’m not sure I would recommend this one to just anybody. While Planking was pretty safe (unless you did it in a ridiculously dangerous location, like on the rail of a balcony seven stories up), Batmanning requires some strong leg muscles or you risk falling right onto your head.
Take a look at some of the early adopters of this new craze, courtesy of Twitter, and decide for yourself if it’s genius or insanity.

So when the first person falls on their head from 10 stories, or off the golden gate bridge, lets all pray its a guy, so it can be “Authentic Flat-manning”.
