Unfair Comparisons?

Stormwatch DCnU #1, Brave New World indeed!

After I reviewed Moonstone’s Omega Paradox purely on the strength of the cover, Mark Sparacio kindly sent me a copy of the zero issue. Now I have to admit, the comic book itself is beautiful, especially the colouring, although I find the lettering to be a little oversized. What troubles me however, for what is supposed to be a taster issue, is that the plot, or even a basic context for the action, seems to have remained in the mind of the writer. In sixteen pages, we see five people who clearly cannot stand each other, working to kidnap some guy and failing, then arguing about it. Elements of each Read more »

Direwolf Winter Lager

Direwolf Winter Lager

So winter is coming. We all know that. We may not know what exactly is coming with winter, though we have five books’ worth of hints and clues. We’re even getting details about the casting for the second season of Game of Thrones. I am sure you’re all tied up in knots waiting for that season to commence, but there’s nothing we can do about it for now except to hang on to every morsel of news that we can get our hands on. We can also watch reruns. Alternatively, we can scour the web for cool stuff that tells us about the long and harsh winter that is coming Read more »

Amazing 3D Drawings by Fredo

Bottle by FredoART

Every now and then, you come across artwork that takes your breath away. I am no art expert, but I can appreciate good work. Sometimes, even those pieces of art that I don’t understand, I can feel good about. This new set of drawings that I came across, though, I totally get. I don’t know how the guy does it, but these 3D drawings are so amazing you just can’t stop looking at them. The artist: FredoART from DeviantART. He goes by the name Fredo, although his real name is Wladimir Inostroza. This guy is only 20 years old, and he is from Santiago, Chile. He loves rock music and Read more »

Thor Meets Swamp Thing With Added Nazis!

Interior art from Moonstone's The Heap #1

Many of us bemoan the loss of the old style comics of the Sixties and Seventies, but I am grateful to Moonstone for keeping the spirit alive. I may be a bit late in coming to The Heap, the first issue shipping a couple of weeks ago, but now I am kicking myself for leaving it on the ‘unread’ pile for so very long. The first impression of this issue I had was ‘fun’. Remember Swamp Thing before he went so very dark and spooky at the hands of Alan Moore? For instance, when the elemental was teamed with Deadman in the later issues of the Challengers of the Unknown? Read more »

Don’t you just miss Battlestar Galactica and everything else that comes with it? We may not be able to bring the series back – even the spin off, Caprica, was not enough for me to be honest – but there are little things in life that can help satisfy that yearning for what could very well be the greatest science fiction TV series ever. You can always go back to reading the Battlestar Galactica Series Bible if you have some spare time. That should do the trick every time. Alternatively, you can join in on the discussion about the best characters of Battlestar Galactica. But here’s another cool idea. Why Read more »
