Halloween Costume Idea: QR Code Costume
Halloween is drawing rather near, and for those of you who celebrate this holiday in a big way, your costume is probably already on your mind. If you are still looking at options, here is one thing that can be a source of inspiration: a QR code costume. Sure, QR codes are nothing new. You see them more and more every day. You even see QR code tattoos! This guy did a bit of work to get his QR code costume done, though, and it seems but right to give him a bit of attention. As you will see when you scroll down, this QR code costume is very simple, Read more »
Crimson: Steam Pirates an iOS game done right!
What happens when you take the creator of the Mechwarrior, Shadowrun and Crimson Skies series and put him at the helm of a new pirate game for the iOS? Crimson: Steam Pirates is the collaborative work of Jordan Weisman (our Mechwarrior guy) and Bungie Aerospace, which is Bungie’s own platform to help developers create games and launch them in mobile and social platforms. So we’re bringing together the guy who created Mechwarrior with the team that conceived the Halo Universe — and after months of shack work, Crimson: Steam Pirates is born. Forget the “YARR!” and “AHOY MATEY!” dialogue. Steam Pirates is set in a steam punk universe where pirates Read more »
Gears 3 Is Almost Here
What is the deal with these Gears of War trailers and all the weepy, mopey music? Who’s idea was this? The song in question in this new trailer is “Into Dust” by alt/rock band Mazzy Star, which Epic Games used to craft the latest — and likely final — trailer for Gears of War 3, which they’ve dubbed “Dust to Dust.” Read more »
LEGO Skyscrapers
LEGO artist extraordinaire Sean Kenney was recently commissioned by a LEGO Store in Chicago to recreate three of the city’s most iconic skyscrapers. And boy, did Kenney deliver. The biggest model — Trump Tower — is 10 feet tall. And the towers are held together by nothing but the artist’s expertise. Read more »
Scrap Metal Animals
Where does scrap metal goes when it dies? Technically, scrap metal is already dead, I think, as it is supposed to be the corpse of previously useful things. Then again, as the old saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. In the case of French artist Edouard Martinet, however, scrap metal is the source of inspiration for art. Let me correct that. Scrap metal is more than inspiration for Martinet. It is the the heart and soul of his work. For Martinet, everything has value. He takes what he finds from flea markets and car boot sales, such as kitchen pans (and pots, I suppose) – the rusty Read more »
10 Silly Anime Weapons
A lot of strange ideas can come out of anime sometimes, and that includes the weapons that are used. Some of them do not exist, while others would never actually work in real life. This is a compilation of 10 such weapons that I found amusing and the anime that they’re from. Machinegun Mounted Segways (Aria the Scarlet Ammo) In the first episode, our hero, Kinji, finds himself bicycling for his life as a bomb strapped to his seat is set to explode if he pedals slower than a certain speed (no, Keanu Reeves does not come to save the day). All the while, he is being chased by a Read more »

Rinse And Blow Dry
Now I am not traditionally a fan of ‘simple’ crime comics. There are not enough people in spandex beating each other up or cosmic concepts designed to blow your mind and make you think big, really really big, for my tastes. Even I need a break sometimes however, and with Fear Itself, Flashpoint and the DC Explosion – I mean the DCnU, (sorry, bit of a timeslip there); it is nice to take a break from world shattering events and inter-related story lines that take a year just to reveal the events of a day or two, and look at the far more normal world. Boom, as reliable as ever, Read more »
