iOS Hit ‘Infinity Blade’ Coming to Arcades Near You

How do you translate a game specifically designed for a handheld touchscreen device into an exciting arcade game? If that game is the bestselling, critically acclaimed Infinity Blade, then the answer is: with a honkin’ big flatscreen TV.

ChAIR Entertainment’s Infinity Blade is one of the iTunes App Store’s biggest success stories. The whole idea behind it is to use your finger on the touchscreen as a sword, swipe-and-slashing your way through one enemy after another, in sort of a fast-paced, turn-based strategy kind of thing. Infinity Blade has sold millions of copies and spawned a sequel that’s due in December.

Infinity Blade FX is the name of the new arcade version, which magnifies the game for a 46″ TV screen with touchscreen capabilities. Instead of your finger, you’ll use your entire hand/arm to whack away at those enemies. As you can imagine, this creates a more physical experience for the player. My biggest concern would be how to keep players from destroying the screen with a game that requires such vigorous action, but apparently the arcade version uses a “protective tempered glass” to prevent that very thing.

The game is being rolled out right now to all 57 Dave & Busters restaurant/arcades nationwide, but the company producing the arcade machines is shopping it around to traditional arcades as well.

Do those still exist?
